If obesity is a Covid risk factor and going to the gym is safe. Why are they closed? And if going to the gym is safe why aren’t athletics safe...

Let me preface by saying I can't wait until my gym reopens.
The argument for keeping them closed is three fold:
1) People can exercise outside. They don't
need gym equipment.
2) Gyms often have terrible airflow and people are breathing heavier/expelling significantly more air.
3) People often spend 45-90 minutes in a gym.
The combination of 2 and 3 are what is said to be the Petri dish needed for covid spread.
In Tennessee, gyms have been open but you have to wear a mask to work out. I'm all for wearing masks, but there's no way I could work out and wear a mask.
Personally, I think the responsible thing to do is open gyms at limited capacity with extra cleaning. That's what my gym was doing before we went into the Safer at Home and it was working really well. It allows the businesses to be open but keeps everyone safe.
