Obviously he wasn't going to run the ball yesterday, he's a smart kid. No NFL starter in their right mind is going to take off running in a preseason game. I'm referring to him running out of the pocket more than he stays in it. When he feels the least bit of pressure, he leaves the pocket. He definitely isn't running as much as he could be but it's obvious that he wants to let his feet impact his game. Furthermore, the Colts have a terrible pass rush and Griffin was only pressured a few times yesterday. They gave him plenty of time, so there was no real need for him to run. I think he's more balanced than Mike Vick or Jason Campbell or Vince Young but you can tell that he is way more confident in his running game than his passing game. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Eli Manning, Drew Brees...etc will sit in the pocket until they absolutely have to leave. Tom Brady will even just take a sack sometimes. RGIII doesn't do that, once he sees pressure he starts scrambling. He may not take off and run, but he leaves the pocket. This worked yesterday because we played a terrible defense. When we face the Giants, Cowboys, Saints, Steelers, and Ravens (all teams we face this year), he needs to stay in the pocket until that final second. All of those teams are fantastic at forcing turnovers by pressuring the QB. Again, I think he has promise but it's clear that he needs to spend more time in the pocket and be okay with taking a sack. He isn't confident in his arm yet, hence the four over thrown balls yesterday and there were a few passes yesterday that could have been picked. Look at his stats from yesterday, his average yards per completion was 4.4, against Chicago he also only averaged 6.1, and he ran 30% of the time. That shows that he isn't comfortable throwing the ball down field, he likes throwing short passes and letting his receivers do the work. He has a great arm and he's very good at reading defenses but he isn't throwing bullits to receivers 15 yards downfield. Luck did run twice yesterday but his offensive line was terrible and he waited until the very last second before he scrambled. I still think the world of RGIII and he has the ability to be a great QB but he is very much a delicate work in progress, whereas Luck is already a sure bet.
