We are 16.5 point dogs this week.

ESPN’s win probability (which i do understand is completely meaningless) has us finishing 5-7. My eye test tells me 5-7 is probably too generous.

I’m having a tough time seeing us making it to bowl eligibility.

I said the same to everyone around me before the JMU game. To go from Fiesta Bowl (with the previous staff’s players) to this is an incredible drop off in talent. And for it to happen at a school with “more money than it can spend” and a coach making $4MM+ per year, it’s inexplicable.

Some of our old fcs teams played better than this one.

This season is spiraling downward fast, and that's from a pretty bad starting spot. Now Green probably out for the season too.

We would be a bad fcs team. I honestly think we’d have a losing record in fcs with this team too.

This team has way too much talent to look so lost like this. Truly awful, uninspiring play. It's unfathomable that we don't have a QB who can make a play.

To be completely honest I’m not sure we have talent.

I have no faith whatsoever that Chadwell can turn this around this year. After the second half of last season and how we look this season I’m losing faith he can turn this around next season.

We’re getting all these highly rated recruits and he can’t develop them. I knew this season was going to be long when we went after Vasko, who was benched multiple times at Coastal for his poor performance. At this point I want to see Houck and Bradford play.

This is something I think is underrated. Yes Freeze got good players in but they were better after playing for him and in his system. Good coaches can develop players. What players have been developed the last several years. What players were better at the end of the year compared to the beginning of the year?

I agree. I don’t think he can turn it around this year. However, I think he should be given every opportunity to make the changes necessary to turn it around next season. That’s going to require him to make some decisions that go against his historical grain. If he can go against form and make those decisions he will gain a few more years to turn it around. If not he’s got 1

It’s all about the trenches. This is the worst O line we have fielded, at least since we jumped to FBS.
Our D Line is also one of the worst we have fielded in recent memory.
These failed operations make everything else more difficult.
Still should be able to create some opportunities on offense and be prepared each week. This has been the most disappointing that we look lost in key moments of every ball game.

If we're going to be bad, can we at least be entertaining?

What I wouldn't give to see an INT on a shot downfield or JuJu getting tripped up on some ridiculous reverse concept instead of.. whatever overly safe and meager scheme this is.

The O Line surprises me. By all accounts we have an extremely talented coach there. Losing the players he did to the portal didn’t help. I’m giving him a pass because he’s demonstrated how good he can be.

Good to see Bradford’s mom call out the coaches. Apparently lied to them about playing tonight. I’m sure that’s going to go well with a few high school coaches.

As for the defense, the 3-4 is terrible, especially with the line we got.

At this point much of Chadwell’s success can be chalked up to an underrated QB in Grayson McCall at Coastal and then he obviously inherited the group that Freeze recruited in 2023. When the key players from that group graduated or bolted we have not recovered as a program. Plain and simple that Freeze recruited better. I hope Chadwell can turn it around and he will be given every opportunity to do so but if we start off this poorly next year I don’t see how he makes it through next season. I would expect a major reshuffle of assistant coaches as a next step in a hopeful turnaround.

Freeze was a good recruiter ...but he also had a great indy schedule to flash.

Guys are playing hard. A depleted defense stepped up in the second half, only gave up seven. Let’s face it Cooley carried us last year. We're missing that one player.

As I said in here Week 1 (go look it up): Where is the talent?

If you’ve been watching every game, every season - like so many of us have - I don’t know how you weren’t shocked how different the team looked even in a Week 1 win. It was JARRING. And it hasn’t changed.

I watched a minute of ODU. I didn’t watch even a minute of BGSU. I said three weeks in we aren’t going to get to bowl eligibility.

I have lost any desire to follow this team, and I won’t plan my Saturday’s around making sure we see the game. If I’m free, sure. If I’m already watching football, I’ll flip over to our game. But we are BAD. And I’ve lost my desire to keep up this season.

I’ll push back a little bit here. And since I’m much bigger than you there’s nothing you can do! :D

This season was definitely going to be a challenge in terms of talent. Losing Cooley and the rest of the RB’s hurt a lot. I’m not sure losing Salter was a net negative. Dude obviously didn’t want to be here and it showed. The receivers have always been just average. Now add to that playing your 3rd string QB and RB due to injuries along with a new young OL it’s going to be a miracle if we win another game.
On defense? Talent is irrelevant. The scheme has proven atrocious at best. It doesn’t matter the talent level on the field when what that talent is supposed to be doing is fatally flawed. They need a complete revamp on that side of the ball but I’m not optimistic that will happen.
Special teams? When have they ever been good under any LU coach? I think it’s because we’ve never erected a Touchdown Jerry mural on the side of the old Erickson Tower

Random thoughts -
This team looks a lot less fractured than years passed. They really seem bought in even if what they are buying into is a depreciating asset. That speaks well of a HC.
They need to find the 3 teams who commit the fewest penalties in the last 3 seasons and send coaches there for Spring Practice to see what they do to achieve that.
Player development is concerning. I’ve seen none over the years on Defense. I’ve seen very good improvement on the O Line. The RB’s have also shown development over the years. But I see an overall lack of player improvement from the start of a season to the end or year over year. That’s concerning

First of all I just want to say I’m in favor of giving chadwell next season to improve (unless we finish 1-11 with the easiest schedule in the country). I just don’t want this to come across as I want him gone at the end of this season.

In my opinion, which is completely meaningless, the defense over the past 3 years is a fireable offense. It should be mandatory that there will be drastic changes to the coaching on that side of the ball after the season. I don’t think Chadwell is going to change a thing. I am quickly losing faith in him and as of right now I’d put money on next year being his last in Lynchburg.

On X. According to her the coaches promised him and his family that he was going to play but as we all see he didn’t. I kind of hope he transfers and goes to a team that will develop him and he goes and kills it just to show how terrible Chadwell is. Add the fact we’re going to waste Houcks redshirt year for nothing.
