the ihsa in illinois recognizes bass fishing here locally. i just can't get around how awesome that would of been when i was in hs. obviously its not feasible for each district to have a team, so we have regional teams made up of districts around the area. equipment is usually sponsored by local companies and same with boats.

its been very successful here.

No. 2 son would love this. He would want a scholarship. No. 1 son, exact opposite of No. 2, went to N.C. State and they had a national-championship bass fishing team. But he's an ice hockey guy. Didn't LU have a club team for bass fishing a few years back?

Talk about a sweet recruting trip. Better hope coach isn't buying the kids bait tho!
Mind telling me how cheerleading isn't a sport? They do more than just show up at basketball/football games. They have to submit to a health eating plan (they cannot eat fried foods, soda...etc.), they have to follow a workout plan (which is extremely rigorous). Additionally, they compete around the country in very physical routines. Just because something doesn't involve a ball or physical contact with the opposing team, doesn't mean it isn't a sport.

Whoop. An activity being physically demanding doesn't make it a sport. Cheerleading, gymnastics, skateboarding, figure skating & dancing are all competitions. You appeal to a judge; they rank your score. Excluding them from the sport classification doesn't mean I have less respect for what they do. It simply is a different class of activities. You don't compete against anyone 1st hand, the scoring is subjective, and there is no conflict between you and your opponent.

No defense = no sport. Athletic activity, sure, but not a sport.

Websters Dictionary defines "Sport" as "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others."

Websters is pretty legit for a good dictionary right? So, by their definition, is cheerleading still not a sport?

Also, cheerleading isn't all subjective. There are different things required in each routine and it's clear whether or not you actually accomplish it correctly. You are judged according to a sheet that is basically bias proof. If cheer isn't a sport, then neither is golf or bowling.

I'd give you all the other ones (gymnastics, skateboarding, figure skating, heck maybe even nascar etc.) but cheerleading will never be a sport... Play Hockey 8) :usa

Go ask our AD that, or any AD for that matter and I guarantee you they'll disagree.

If Cheerleading is a sport then so is Marching Band. It's a physical activity, in which your team participates in a routine where you have to satisfy certain requirements for a good score. Ultimately, your score is subjective based on what the judges rule.

The judges are the problem here... In golf and bowling, you are in a head to head matchup with another opponent and your execution shows on the board based on how many shots you complete the course in or how many pins you knock down. The judges are there simply to make sure there are no rule violations. In Cheerleading/Marching Band - there are some parts of the routine that must be included, but a large part of the scores that are received are subjective in nature. I would not agree that either of these are a sport.

Anyone who disrespects our AD, doesn't know him or what he's doing for Liberty. Guarantee you that we wouldn't be half as close to FBS football without him.

Why would I do that when I have Websters dictionary sitting right in front of me?

multiple sources may or may not be limited to this message board and users with the name Imbach and ToC

To get the most current accepted definition for a word? To live in a 1st world country in the 21st century? To come to the startling realization that using a print version of something that is free and constantly updated is a head in the sand approach when you're online?

If I'm in a court room and I need a definition, I'm not using Websters Online Dictionary. At least not if I want to continue my practice.

Is the 2011 edition not updated enough? Also, do you care to share the online definition?

I learned long ago that a dictionary definition is relative. I had a boss that spelled judgment with an extra "e," as in judgement. I showed him the dictionary spelling. He said the dictionary was wrong.

It's 2012, so no. In my job, sometimes medical records from last week are not updated enough.

Also, if you're a lawyer, I am never hiring you as my attorney.
