Talk about a sweet recruting trip. Better hope coach isn't buying the kids bait tho!
Mind telling me how cheerleading isn't a sport? They do more than just show up at basketball/football games. They have to submit to a health eating plan (they cannot eat fried foods, soda...etc.), they have to follow a workout plan (which is extremely rigorous). Additionally, they compete around the country in very physical routines. Just because something doesn't involve a ball or physical contact with the opposing team, doesn't mean it isn't a sport.
Whoop. An activity being physically demanding doesn't make it a sport. Cheerleading, gymnastics, skateboarding, figure skating & dancing are all competitions. You appeal to a judge; they rank your score. Excluding them from the sport classification doesn't mean I have less respect for what they do. It simply is a different class of activities. You don't compete against anyone 1st hand, the scoring is subjective, and there is no conflict between you and your opponent.
Websters Dictionary defines "Sport" as "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others."
Websters is pretty legit for a good dictionary right? So, by their definition, is cheerleading still not a sport?
Also, cheerleading isn't all subjective. There are different things required in each routine and it's clear whether or not you actually accomplish it correctly. You are judged according to a sheet that is basically bias proof. If cheer isn't a sport, then neither is golf or bowling.
