ECU would be doing a disservice to Pirate Nation by not hiring the biggest Pirate of them all. Mike Leach.

I figured that (imagine the neurological damage)...my point is why is everybody getting so bent out of shape? I mean Im thrilled for the guy either way. I mean I want to see him stick around for at least another few years but if he moves on, LU football is still LU football and that shouldnt be lessened any more by him moving on if he in fact does.

manson, ECU is huge step up from temple. ECU is the two-time C-USA Champ. Temple is no comparison to ECU. Temple's fanbase is awful, they play in an empty lincoln financial field, and have horrible practice facilities, whereas ECU has an awesome fanbase, the people down east love some ECU football, they are expanding their stadium, have nice practice facilities and they play on tv a lot more, not to mention Golden knows holland pretty well. it is a good fit IMO. i hope he gets it.

Well when the first two posters are saying "that's not good" and then using a head banging against a wall emoticon it does get me to wondering...I mean youre making it like if Danny Rocco leaves LU football will fall apart or something...no one person defines this football program. If Coach Rocco were to leave it would be a greater testament to the program to CONTINUE to do as well as we have. If he doesnt leave he has a chance to make a mark that I dont think any other coach has made on this program.

I hope you're right, but I'm thinking he hopes his next gig is at a BCS

I think this is the main thing. Even if it's a better job, it's not a step up in conference. CUSA is pretty weak, maybe better than the MAC but not really very good. If you're at Temple with a lot of success, you're looking to move to a place like BC, or UConn, or UVa, low level BCS. Do you think Danny Rocco would take the HC job at Eastern Kentucky? It's a pretty similar situation to this. Just not enough of a jump to uproot what you're started at the school you're at.

BJ, Danny Rocco getting a job at ECU would be good for Danny Rocco, but completely hit or miss for LU. We could hire the next Vince Lombardi or the next Kenny Karcher. I'd rather stick with the known quantity of the awesomeness of Danny Rocco. Look at what happened to WU when Marshall left. Now they're left trying to convince themselves that Peele isn't a trainwreck. I'm not sitting here in the corner hyperventilating at the thought of ECU taking our coach, but it's "not good" for us that they may take him.

Look at what happened to WU when Marshall left. Now they're left trying to believe it's not a thing of the past. I'm not sitting here in the corner crying at the thought of ECU taking our Danny, but it's not good if they do.

TTL, i will respectfully disagree. temple is a football graveyard. the school really could care less about football. ECU has a rabid fanbase and it's clearly a step up. it appears many think that jumping to a BCS program is the next best move. im not so sure in this case. like i said before ECU gets more tv exposure than temple ever had. i think temple played twice on tv this year... ECU plays big boys for non-conference games Al Golden's name will get bigger if he takes the ECU job and even better if he continues to build on what holtz leaves behind. plus if Golden takes the job, what abotu conference realignment down the road?? if he were to stay that long ECU will have a better chance at jumping to a BCS school than at temple IMO. I also think the MAC was a little down this year which had to contribute a bit to the owls success.

Why did Mike Leach turn down the LU football job?

Because he couldn't give up movies rated ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

I've always heard there were other issues with Bud that keep him from actually landing a HC job.

GMTM told me holtz met with his players at 3pm to tell them he was leaving and is to meet with terry holland tonight, so barring a change of heart holtz is headed to USF.

All of the buzz on the ECU boards seems to center around the high profile guys recently canned (Leach & Leavitt) and other more likely candidates like Golden & Ruffin. I hope Coach Rocco is as far far off Holland's radar as he is from the fanbase in Greenville.

i really do not see "gentleman terry" hiring either leach or leavitt. just does not seem like someone he would hire.

Yea, I don't believe either would be on Terry's list. It's just not his MO!

Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster has been an assistant coach for 29 seasons, and if he truly aspires to wear the big whistle, East Carolina is an ideal opportunity.
