Dang right we're trying to sell our program!

We've gotten more exposure since Bentley arrived than we've ever had. PC is just one of those schools that's a great little secret. We have great academics, a pretty campus, successful alumni and exciting sports teams. Problem is, with only 8,000 living alumni spread out all over the world, we're not known very well outside a few little enclaves throughout the Southeast.
Selling the football program actually helps us in two ways. First, in establishing a broader recruiting base we make ourselves more competitive in DI play. We've been getting the shaft in recruiting over the last 15 years because we compete with Furman and Wofford for the same athletes. So if you were a recruit trying to choose between three quality institutions, you'll write off PC automatically if it means you can get a great education and play DI ball. Gregg Nibert, our basketball coach, has said that smart, talented potential recruits have repeatedly told him that they love PC but want to play at the DI level. Now we're beginning to close the recruiting gap between us and the schools with whom we compete.
In addition, more things are going on around campus than just sports. We're constructing the first part of a $25 million science faciltiy, completely renovating the campus center, endowing new professors, and adding more scholarships. Our capital campaign has eclipsed the $100 million mark and is only getting bigger. Not too bad for a liberal arts school of only 1,200. So if people can hear about us through sports or see our name on the ESPN ticker and get their curiosity piqued, then they can learn more about us and see all the great things that are happening in Clinton. We've always had a great reputation, but starting now, more people will get to hear about it.
