I know some people on here so I know their jokes. It just ticks me off when some people just are flat out rude. I spent a year at home travelling to a community college 35 minutes away that I absolutely hated so that I could take my appraisal classes. The first semester I had class every day and had to make the trip twice on Tuesdays because of the appraisal classes (6pm-10pm every night). The second semester I got smarter with how I scheduled classes and only had to go four days a week but still 6pm-10pm on Tuesdays. My dad's still skeptical about the fact that I bought it but he understands why. It's completely, 100% in my name and I'm paying for it and the insurance completely, along with rent and all of that. I'm not one of the kids who has everything paid for. Yes, my parents are paying for most of my school, but that's because they are able to. If they flat out gave me a brand new $19,000 car (I didn't pay that much) then yes, I could understand why you would make the jokes. I paid for it myself though, and that's why I got ticked off.

somehow i missed this whole thread...but for what its worth SJ...nice car...It probably wouldn't be my first choice, but I am not really an SUV kind of a person...

as for getting peeved at people, its not worth it man...some people just like hacking people off...

alright that is about as encouraging as I am going to get...

no need to worry about what people think, you worked hard for this car, I wish more Liberty students could be like that...many people think my car was given to me since its a newer mustang and crap...but it wasn't...i simply got an amazing deal on it...people are so quick to assume things simply because the stereotype at liberty is that anybody with a nice car is a spoiled brat...which is not always the case

I'm not spoiled. I used to be very picky about vehicles but now that I'm a bonafide adult out of college, I'm more interested in reliability and practicality when it comes to something I'd have to buy. I still would love something like a magnum, but I'm a little more realistic. In fact, I'm cutting out the Grand National and just going with the Camry and the pickup. Although I may have to sell the camry soon to get some kid mobile.

SJ, what led you to choose the Compass? What was its major selling point to you?

I really liked the gas mileage of it. We road trip to basketball and football games so I wanted to be able to fit more than one other person in the car too so I can take 2-3 people with me, and there's still room in the back to store stuff. If I have to go pick stuff up for our company, I can lay the seats down and have room for it in the back. It's also a good size to use for tailgating. It rides really nice. Also, I know it's something very minor, but it's got the auxiliary input on the stereo and has an iPod/cell phone dock. For someone that drives as much as me, the cell phone dock is pretty convenient.

sorry to bring this up again, but SJ, when you chose the compass, was there something about the patriot that turned you off or did you just like the compass more? I just got approved for financing for the patriot, so i think im going to be getting a black patriot here in the next two or three weeks.

The Patriot didn't come out for a month and a half after I bought my Compass. The Patriot it what I really wanted, but because of work I couldn't afford to drive my Wrangler anymore and had to have something now. If you can get the Patriot, go for it.

I know this isnt much help after the fact and all but I have a friend that builds the compass and patriot in Illinois and she said the patriot is the better car and the better buy! Last month I took my oldest to get her first new car after graduating college and landing a job. She wanted a patriot but we had the same problem...they just werent out there yet. So she went with the 07 chevy HHR. Her mom hs an 06 and loves it! no sticker shock starting around 15k and 30 mpg isnt bad either!

IMO, you should buy a Honda Accord. In January of 2003, I bought a new H2 and drove it for 2 years. I sold it and bought a used 2001 Honda Accord to drive around for 2 or 3 months until I decided which SUV I would purchase next. It was the first time I drove a car since I was 16. I am still driving the Honda today. They are the greatest cars. A friend of mine convinced me to buy it when I sold my previous vehicle. Each year he buys a 3-4 year old Honda and pays for it with a 0% interest rate credit card. At the end of the year, he sells it for $800-$2,000 more than he paid. He is the only person I know of that actually makes money from the car that he drives. The cost of gas has never bothered me, but the Honda Accord gets good gas mileage also.

So are these. You're crazy if you just dismiss them because of the extra luggage room.

You know, you could put rims on a baby-stroller, too, and achieve the same effect. I'd much rather have whatever those mommy-mobiles are parked next to.

so are you just basing it on looks or the image of your mom carting you to figure skating practice?

because there's no way you can like this:

and not this:

and I'm completely ignoring the rims.

I think you're too stuck on this:
