After last night's episode, for me LOST has jumped the shark.

I thought last night's was amazing. Lost is nowhere near jumping a shark (that phrase has jumped the shark, IMO).

The island mystery just went deeper, but we got some answers too.

My latest theory is that the greyish sand-looking stuff is what Jacob uses to manifest himself as the smoke monster.

To me 'Lost' is starting to go the way of every other JJ Abrams show -- 'Alias', 'Felicity' and, to a lesser extent, 'What About Brian?' -- 1 or 2 solid seasons followed by a screaming downward spiral. I gave up on 'Lost' midway through the 2nd season when it became apparent that the producers were deliberately trying to frustrate the audience.
And now they're dead set for 3 more years?! Seriously?! I mean, how many more times can the universe stand the exact same line being uttered?!*

* -- (The line is: "You of all people should understand that." Go back and watch 'Alias', et al. Someone will utter those words verbatim in nearly every single episode.)

Man I always thought Ben had that serial killler look to him. What a cold blooded move, and to use gas added a nicely eerie feeling to the episode. Nice tie in with Lock shot in the pit and saying Jacob's word's " Help Me ". Locke of course is going to live and exact his revenge. So we know that Dharma is done, but what about the Others? And how many of them survived, we know at least one. Or was Dharma infiltrated by The Others?l
I am glad that they have put a "dead"line on the show. I think that is going to give the show a sense of urgency and purpose.
It will be interesting to see how Jack and Sawyer play out. Sawyer really stepped up into the leadership role, will he be Locke's replacement as Jack's "Military" consultant?
And why can I never remember his New ladies name? Does anyone think she is hotter than Kate?

i agree, the whole thing got a whole lot deeper than what we all were thinking....we are starting to delve into the actual powers of the island....i think the black rock is going to be important next year...

as for the grey stuff...yeah possibly...i'm leaning more towards in other pacific islands, areas that seemed to be haunted by evil spirits were perimetered with volcanic ash to keep the spirits in their area....

its either

a) rousseaux's gun powder
b) volcanic ash
c) smoke monster dust

Ben is one of my favorite characters....always plotting and outsmarting.....just like he's outsmarted locke....AGAIN....

what "others" are you talking about?....the hostiles?

jack and kate are starting to bore me....one thinks hes the man still while its apparent noone trusts him...and kate is so googoo for jack she blabbers....what a moron

oh and juliet is hotter however she's playing both sides....whichever side can get her off the island.....

Are all of you LU grads/students missing the obvious connection between Ben and Jacob? Jacob's wife Rebecca, died while giving birth to Benjamin. Does anybody think that Jacob could be the ghost of Uncle Rico (ben's father)?

Really, from the glimpse of Jacob that we saw, he looked to me like he was probably a sailor on the Black Rock.

I read something interesting that said the glimpse of Jacob looked an awful lot like Locke...I have not gone back and looked at it myself, but...

I also believe that Jacob can manifest himself as Smokey...or even all the hallucinations that people are seeing...Ben seeing his mother, Jack his dad...Kate the horse etc.

Haize...the others you reference...are you referring to the Hostiles that kept attacking Dharma? If so...the Hostiles are the "others" as we have come to know them...Ben, Richard Alpert etc...

BTW...how did the Hostiles keep attacking Dhama with the Sonic Fence surrounding their camp?

I too like the deadline on the show, I just wish they had done two season of 24 episodes instead of 3 seasons of 16. 3 years may draw it out a bit to far...just a tease each season, then wait another year. I believe that had to be a compromise between the producers and ABC

Juliet hotter than Kate....I say no, but Juliet is hot in a different kind of way

And Mallet...I think Ben is awesome as well... (not only that, I think he is a phenomenal actor)

If the ghosty guys name was Roger, I think it would be a little obvious. But if you're making a direct parallel with the bible, the psuedonym would be Jacob.

No, it has not been phenomenal. It's been one long snore-fest. I no longer care what happens to these people so long as something actually happens. Believe me, for the next 2 1/2 years they're going to drag this out, creating more questions than there already were and then, they will try to provide answers for every last of them in the last 4 episodes. Most of said answers won't make the slightest bit of logical sense. You will feel cheated.

One thing that is different from the shows you listed...I am not sure how much influence JJ Abrams has anymore. He has been working on so many movies, he has done very little for Lost the last 2 years. Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse have been the ones behind the show. Again...not sure if that will change anything or not.

I do believe that this season has been great. It is significantly better than season 2.

one thing that initially kept me so interested, was that they insisted that everything could be explained by science/psuedo science. I think Wednesday went well beyond that. If I had known it was going to get so supernatural I probably wouldn't have started watching in the first place. Too late though.

Oh, I have given up on it. I also don't have cable. Pretty much any show on the "Big 4" is unavoidable. And, for the record, I like sci-fi when it's done right. I absolutely loathe it, however, when taking a hard left turn into Sci-Fi Land is really just a cover for the writers' running out of ideas (ie., 'Vanilla Sky').
And 'Lost' is a snoozefest as evidenced by the fact that I fell asleep while watching it. I don't go to bed before 2AM and, in the last 2 years, there are only 3 shows that have knocked me out before then: 'Dora the Explorer', 'Elmo's World' and season 3 of 'Lost'. The show is crap. Boring, irksome, somnolescent, cloying, prosaic, tiresome sci-fi crap.
