I don't know of anyone who needs our prayers more right now that Laurie McCauley. Please read part of the email I received today regarding Laurie's battle with cancer:
After a biopsy on her lymph glands, x-rays, and other tests today, it is definitely cancer that is attacking her body. The doctors do not believe it started in the lymph system, but are not sure where it did start. The type that she has is extremely aggressive and is spreading throughout her body quickly. It is possible, although not definitive, that it may have started in the pancreas and spread from there to the lymph glands and liver...medically speaking Laurie may only have a few weeks to live...

...I want to ask all of you to solicit your family, friends, colleagues, church members, and prayer warriors wherever they may be to lift up Laurie and her family in prayer on Monday. I also want to ask you to send cards to Laurie - because I know she would really enjoy receiving them...The address is: Laurie McCauley, 221 Lansing Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
Laurie is an LU alumnus, and her husband Greg played on LU's basketball team in the early '80s. Please pray for her and her family.

Definite prayers going up. Laurie was an actress in one of the Halloween slasher movies before becoming a Christian. I think the one starring Jason if memory serves me correct. Later she won the Miss Liberty pageant.

Baldspot, since you brought up her acting career, I thought I better clarify: she was in the original Friday the 13th, and her pic is on the back cover of any VHS box (that's a different movie than the Halloween series of movies). Then she later got saved and came to LBC and even taught part-time in the English Dept., I believe. Let's all be in prayer for her.

This one hits home very hard for me guys. I am very close to the McCauley family and Laurie in particular is one of my favorite people in the world. Words don't exist that describe how incredible a person she is. Extremely talented, loving and gifted and their kids are all exceptional to say the least. Lauren, their oldest daugter is moving her wedding up to next weekend so Laurie will get a chance to see her get married. Please pray for the family as this is going to be an emotional day for several reasons. I used to baby sit Lauren and Scottie when they were very young when I was a student. I would not have ever gotten a chance to play at Liberty if not for Greg McCauley and I most certainly would not have gotten through it without Laure McCauley. What a great family. I always have a place to stay in Lynchburg as long as the McCauley's are in town. We are truly family. Greg is one of the best players from the early Meyer days and he is vertually unstoppable in the local church leagues. Cider Jim may remember a 40 plus point performance in a championship game he had back in the early 90's when we all played in the church league out in Madison Heights....Anyway, our family appreciates your prayers.

Very very very sorry to hear this. I got to know Laurie a few years back when I worked for Knucklehead at WSET and Laurie did a ton of voice work and PSA's for us. Sweetest lady on earth and the fact that she raised that many kids to be just as sweet is amazing.

Yes it was Friday the 13th as someone said above I believe...Lauren, their oldest daughter is getting married this weekend instead of late in the year as was the original plan due to the circumstances. We were supposed to be in Vegas this week but we have postponed our plans to be with the family in this happy yet very sad occasion.

A mutual friend of Laurie's called me Saturday night with the news. My entire family is praying along with the faculty and students at the school where I am teaching. If any of you are located in Lynchburg, please let them know that A LOT of people are praying in Orlando... Thanks!

I just found out about Laurie's Cancer yesterday. Let me tell you as someone who worked with her extensively here at WSET for many years, she is one of the nicest most genuine people I've ever met. She is a tremendous actress and voice over talent. She would bring the kids with her sometimes, and you wouldn't even know they was here. What a great woman, mother, teacher, and actress. Our prayers go out to her and the family.

Not so sure who she is but it seems like every professor brings her up in class -- can anyone give us a brief synopsis of her role in Lynchburg or Liberty?

Regardless, praying for her and her family.

Laurie truly is one of my favorite people in this world. She used to host a talk show on the local cable and she would have had an amazing acting career had she not decided to give it all up to raise a family. She gladly did it though as she will tell you. She was mentored by Vincent Price the actor most known for horror movies and voice over work as well as doing the narration for the Michael Jackson Thriller video. Laurie was Miss Liberty in the early 90's and Greg was a post Karl Hess basketball player that is in the 1000 point club in the media guide. As a very young coach, he was already married to Laurie and Greg was the one that got me my scholarship at Liberty by lobbying for it with coach Meyer. He was the only coach I had actually met when I came to Liberty in the fall of 86. Their oldest daughter Lauren is a brilliant student and actress in her own right. She was less than 2 years old when I used to baby sit her with my girlfriend Eden. Scottie came along soon after that and it wasn't long that he was diagnost with a hearing impairment that he has lived with his entire life. Though talking with Scottie you would never know that. Jordan is the star QB at EC Glass and Francis and Isabella make 5. All were home schooled to a certain age and all are great people. The 2 youngest have had to put some of their schooling on hold through this dreadful sickness that Laurie has been going through. Lauren has moved her wedding up to Friday which is why I am in town. This is going to be an amazing day but so sad as well. Keep on praying guys. We have seen the Lord heal many folks from Cancer when it seemed like there was no hope. Us old hags remember Dean Vernon Brewer back in the 80's and of course Dr. Phil Captain in the 90's. Hope that helps shed some light on the life of Laurie McCauley. I could write a book about all the good things she has done over the years but I digress.

I was involved in most of the theatre productions on campus when Laurie arrived at LU, and everyone was excited about having an actress with her credentials around. She made it clear from the beginning however that she had no intentions of doing any acting while a student. This was a decision she made for spiritual reasons, because she didn't want to draw attention to herself. I remember being disappointed, but at the same time admiring her priorities. I wasn't around her last couple of years, but as far as I know she never did any acting at LU. She and another LU grad, Don Brooks, did a lot of local TV commercials several years back, but IMHO her most impressive work was her voiceovers. She and her family will definately be in our prayers.

Laurie has a great voice! So soothing but authoritative...Her daughter Lauren is quite the actress though. I hope she makes acting her career and that she becomes really famous someday. That would be neat and a nice legacy for Laurie and Greg.

As one of the folks who hired Laurie Extensively for voice talent and acting, I'll add that she was always one of the best. There was a couple of years here at the big 13 that most commercials or promos had Laurie's voice or face in them. She always was able to match the mood we wanted and was a pleasure to work with.

For those who may not have heard Laurie I was able to find a commercial for the Salem fair we produced in 1993 or 1994. Try the link to hear the audio (this is one of the few times I will say that the video was irrelevant).

If I remember correctly, Laurie graduated with a 4.0 as well. I did not know her personally but I remember she carried herself with such grace and dignity in school. A real class act. Her performance in the Miss Liberty Pageant was incredible. I felt bad for the other ladies because she really stole the show with her talent and poise.

I don't know the family but it was good to read the personal testimonies of how they have touched lives. I'll send an e-mail to my church and will be praying that all are blessed at the wedding this weekend.
