i don't understand....when i was at comm college there was a guy roaming the halls with a gun....my first instinct was "where can i hide to surprise this b-tard and get him".....maybe it was because i was certain he wasn't coming my way...

I've been thinking along the same lines. Why didn't someone at least try something? I'd like to think I could accept my fate quickly and act on that but you never really know what you would do unless you're in that situation. I believe it's called "bystander theory" or something like that. The more people that witness a crime, the less likely any of them are going to do something about it.

yeah at the comm college, a shot was never fired but if i had heard somehting, who knows i may have froze up....its easy to sit by my computer and be all "I WOULD OF JACKKNIFE POWERBOMBED HIM" and i understand that.....

You definately have to respect the faculty members that put their lives on the line to save the lives of their students. I have read the stories of two professors that died this way. Over 24 hours later and I am still not sure what I would have done in the situation.

i think we would probably all be surprised at how we'd react in that situation. i personally would hope i'd go with my first instinct. i think it'd be best to not stop and think about what to do.

Not sure what I would have done either, but running right at him when opened the door probably would mean your dead, since at that point he would have been ready to fire. Possibly while he was reloading, but that's probalby when they barracaded teh door.

thats just one instance of reloading though....with injuring as many as he did, i'm assuming he probably fired close to 150 times...which means with 2 pistols he probably reloaded 10 times..5 each...

plus he had to have his back turned to a live person at some point during this ordeal. I guess maybe it just wasnt the right people.

If he had only one automatic pistol then maybe, maybe 3 or 4 guys could have rushed him but not with 2 handguns. Also no one had time to get three or four buddies together to formulate a plan when he walked in a room shooting

formulate a plan?....it doesn't take much "hey big dude, lets get this guy" "ok" "alright" plan over....actually disarming a person with 2 weapons has been shown to be easier than disarming a person with 1. 2 weapons means you have to concentrate harder and are also not as focused as you have to switch between weapons...

once again, i'm not aware of the floorplan layout or this guys methods but changing the clip requires 2 hands focused on 1 gun....he either holstered 1 or put it down....

He could have emptied one gun, had the other gun at ready and loaded the empty one, he was in no hurry, as the people could not escape past him unless thru windows, etc.
I can guarantee you with an automatic pistol and 15 rounds in the 9 mm or 16 with one in the chambers, three or four guys rushing you, they are dead within a couple of steps or seconds.

BTW anyone else notice the muslim speaker at the VT convocation didn't place his hand over his heart during the national anthem or clap when Bush came to speak. My little sister noticed that.

and maybe you shouldn't take things personally, you do realize you weren't the only one talking about it....I saw what you wrote about not knowing the layout of the building and such.....but you can be angry at me....its more fun this way

i guarantee you have 4 guys bum rush you you are surprised by it.....empty one gun and then empty the other????now you have 2 empty guns....you can't fire a gun and reload one at the same time.....this isn't gunkata the guy was practicing...he didn't have automatic guns either...so i don't know that thats about....and a 22 unless you get shot in a completely fatal area i ususally jsut painful as crap....i've seen where 22's bounce off of people...

of course this is all speculation at this point....i jsut fail to see how this guy could isolate himself long enough to continually reload and start firing again....at some point in time w/out help he's vulnerable and on the defensive....

i'm assuming w/everyone barracading the doors he was left to his own out in the hallway...but even during class hallways are always busy...
