Well Rocketfan I don't think that you know me as well as you think that you do.. I have been doing HS reffing in this area for the last 2 years now, and lord willing I will be doing college games one day. I am with ACC officials on a weekly basis and have several friends who are in the SEC, Big East, Colonial and BS. I am actually very much in the know as to what is going on, FSN has brought up the point on several broadcasts that I am an offiical hince why I brought up the ACC camp that I went to at Virginia Tech over the summer. As far as the test results over the summer I really don't want to get into who did what... So yes I can say that I have put the Black and White stripes on do put them on a weekly basis... I just find funny how much people think that they know the rules when what they are screaming out loud is far from the actual rule... I have still have tons to learn about the game, it's amazing how many rules and situations that there really are... As far as officials being evaluated they are evaluated everygame, I went down with an ACC official to the UVA/UNC game and the ACC commish was there and let me tell you in a 45 point blowout they still get evaluated very hard. I was going to compliment you on a nice job last night but some of the things you said are frankly the darn dumbest things i have ever read.

First you are not a college official - so its it not possible for you to come to the aide of your fellow officials ( even if they do ref in your favorite conference) You haven't worn there stripes either so how does that give you room to talk in either direction on this issue? I just dont' understand that.

I sat on all the same presses rows in the Big South you did and i beg to differ on the 3 second deal. You make it seem like you have to be accepted into menza to understand that rule. Fans may yell out dumb things but that doesn't mean they are as stupid as you make them out to be.

98% is high for a few reasons: No matter if they are right or wrong how many officials make calls in a game when they are completly out of position (for one reason or another)

Just like in the NFL where you can call holding just about whenever you want, in basketball players hold/grab constantly underneath and off picks. If they called that all the time maybe it would be 98% but we all know they let that slide. Just because they don't call it, doesn't make it that right call. Officials are consistent one game and the next looks like the WWE on the low block. Like Ed Dantes said earlier with officials we used to keep stats and they shouldn't be totally lopsided each and every game.

Duke Edsil is not a good official - because honestly no "quality" official would engage in banter with a fan, as he did on several occasions with me. Thats flat out unprofessional and proves that i got in his head if he couldn't control himself. I watched him look at a opposing players carry the ball and give me a smile, then when i asked him why he doesnt' call traveling during a timeout out, he turned to me and said " You know we don't call that" and smiled again......what are the ramifications for officials if they can't keep there trap shut and locked around the whistle where it should be?

You lost a bunch of credibility calling out a guy about officiating when you didn't even know that HE IS AN OFFICIAL. From all accounts I have heard, GMTM is well liked by the commish of the local league and is moving up the ranks. So you might want to hold off on the personal jabs until you actually know of which you speak.

Also, it's MENSA not MENZA... I am not a great speller myself but it would be good to spell the name of the "Intellect Society" correct when you are making a point about intelligence.

(BTW, I do agree with you that Duke shouldn't chirp with the fans... but I wouldn't call him a bad official... he has done Final Fours for a reason.)

I was talking to Duke because he made horrid call after horrid call, but maybe your right, i should have just openly questioned his sexuality, instead of thinking he didn't have the brains to ref a girls middle school game effectively.

By who's judegement did I make bad call after bad call? Yours? So basically you were telling me that you, someone who does not offiicate at this level (not sure what level you do if any), with a biased and vested interest in the game, have a greater knowledge of rules, game situations and positioning then I do. Gotcha

Final 4's or not Duke's rating has taken him out of consideration as of late for even big games let alone final 4 (last few seasons)...my question is when does an official start breaking down (mentally and physically) b/c I would think (being in his 40's) that he would be pretty close to his prime as an official....my reasoning behind that is b/c I would think late 30's early 40's would be when your prepared the best mentally and still able to keep up physically......so I'm having a problem coming up with a reason why he's struggled at this point in his career

HMO, u mention early on that the level of a Hess is approx. 98% correct in the way of calls he makes. Would you consider his call on RD just as viable? If so, that might be an interesting conversation for you to have with him....

Anonymous Ref, unless you are Carl Hess, it is not fair for you to state his opinion on this board. This is a public forum but Hess may or may not know that you are representing his thoughts and he won't be here to defend himself. I wouldn't want people on this or any board saying SCAR said this or SCAR thinks that. Whether it is true or not is not the point. You go talk to someone and feel tention because they heard something on a message board and you get caught off guard. Feel free to post what you wish.
