Knucklehead, I love the sig about Alston btw. You should come to the next alumni game. I am quite sure he will be there. This time I will put him on my team if the new coach allows me to make the teams. I am gonna miss having the all access pass to all things Liberty hoops

I would hire Cameron Dollar. He is a former player for a national champion. he then went on to be a successful assistant with one of the top programs in the nation and he is young enough that he could connect with the student body and get the kids excited about LU basketball

Wow, All this time I have had a trump card and I haven't been using it! Thanks for the idea Lib. Does Rocco like Choc Chip BTW?

As far as the coaching choice I don't have a real preference of the candidates mentioned.

To me right now it's Cooper vs Dollar. From where I'm standing, they're neck and neck. It would be who impressed me more face to face.

Stay focused, SCAR--this thead is NOT about cookies or your alumni game--it's about who you would hire as AD to coach the Flames next year. :D

I like Dollar as well, but of those listed I lean toward McKay.

I don't think a few years difference in age is that important when it comes to connecting with the students. It has much more to do with the individual, their enthusiasm and communication skills. Does anyone think Danny Rocco is too old? He is in his mid 40's. Of the entire group of "finalists", only Duckett and Carter are older, and not by much. I like the idea of a young coach for other reasons, primarily the possibility of a long tenure.

Which of course is why all of our opinions are totally meaningless speculation unless we have actually met one or more of the candidates in more than just a casual encounter. Don't get me wrong, I'm participating and enjoying the discussion, but I confess that all any of these candidates are to me is a head shot from their SID's office and a bunch of numbers and names saying where they worked, with whom, how long and how many games they won and lost.

JB has worked with at least 4 of them (including Zack and Alexis), and will be interviewing others and getting references from people he trusts who know them and their work well.

I keep thinking about my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers as they were looking for a replacement for semi-legendary Bill Cowher. They bring in this young defensive coordinator from Minnesota Mike Tomlin for an interview primarily to fulfill the "Rooney Rule" which requires a minority be interviewed for openings. He blows them away in the interview, and he is now their head coach.

I'm having a blast speculating here on flamefans, but at this point I'm ready to accept whoever JB chooses and support him 100%, simply because it's his decision to make, all indications are he has gone about the search in a thorough and professional manner, and as far as I'm concerned he hasn't given us any reason to doubt his judgement yet.

All of those candidates have good things about them....I think the 2 that seem to impress me the most is Cooper and McKay...but really I am not sure I would be disappointed with any of the 5 mentioned in this post

Based on what I know, I would hire Cameron Dollar. Sucessful player, recruiter, hometown Atlanta, if you can recruit for WU, you can recruit anywhere and finally if just 1/000000th of Romar has rubberd off on him, he will be great for LU. I am predujiced towards UCLA guys too.

I'm not sure who I would hire...
...but it would NOT be McKay...
1. Purely a west coast guy. Yes, we recruit (inter)nationally, but how about someone who is in tune with the way things are done in the south?

2. The article I posted in one of the other threads...which stated the program had issues with player discipline problems. I will repeat what I said then...
...we don't need that on this campus...especially in light of allegations of players already making a mockery of the Liberty Way (and getting away with it).

http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2007/feb/22/mckay-fired/
McKay and Athletics Director Paul Krebs have had a number of discussions over the past months, Harris said, citing in particular several discipline issues among the players.
3. Barber stated he wanted someone on his way up, not someone on his way back down. Folks, the Big South is a huge fall from The Pit.

Personally, Hanging with Mr. Cooper sounds like a pretty good idea.

Believe me, vast differences from UNLV to UCLA. While the Wizard was there, (probably before your time), it was clean for sure, it was when they brought in Harrick, who had problems everywhere he went, that things went south. However when he left, things got back on track quickly. Almost anyone from such a tradition rich program,or one similar to it, would be helpful for LU. IMO.

Oh Flameshaw...
...you obvious did not see the ESPN show about the big time booster, SAM GILBERT," who hooked up the UCLA players...as the Wizard looked the other way and did not intervene. Try a google search and be amazed (and disappointed).
