I will be going to Scottsdale for work in a couple months and will check out the wildlife sanctuary place and the butterfly sanctuary. There is also a car race museum and train place. I have 5 kids and 2 still younger, so I always look at the family type places. They also have a nice golf course.

If the Rose Bowl wasn't a playoff game this year, it likely would have been Oregon versus Ohio State which is a classic Rose Bowl matchup. Penn State with their bad offense versus your team would be fun, see how PSU defense held up against the run.

RowdyBrad wrote: December 6th, 2023, 1:37 pm I kind of want the same. Obviously, I want the Oregon team to be slightly ahead when the final time runs out, but I don't hope for a blowout. It is a no win situation for the Ducks, in that if they win the narrative will be all about a "g5 team" or "low sos" like you have been dealing with already. If the Ducks lose, well you can only imagine what that would do on our end. Ultimately, a close game where both teams are competitive and if the Ducks manage to get ahead they then play backups when they can and get kids playing time in the Bowl. They are allowed to travel the full team, so there are kids that have not suited up all year that get to go to the bowl from both teams and it means a ton to get in the game.

Injury free, competitive and some great plays from both sides would make for a great game AND prove that LU is to be taken seriously moving forward. Kind of like Boise State in 2007.
And now you see why we had no P5’s, and don’t have any next year either.

Nobody’s playing LU anymore. It’s the very definition of a Lose-Lose situation for them.

LU vs Penn St would have been perfect for our fans as far location. Play the game at Baltimore Ravens stadium and that would have been the best game for both school. That stadium would have been full from both schools.

I saw Mastro's when hunting for steakhouses. It made the final list of three along with The Stockyards and Steak 44. Still searching for a breakfast place and TexMex/Mexican but Blanco Cocina & Cantina will certainly go on the list now.

Anybody else with knowledge of the area I'll gladly take more food recommendations.

Camelback is right there in Scottsdale. I’ve hiked up it a couple times. Pretty nice.

Maestro will be at the high end of your choices but WELL worth the splurge. Did I mention the bacon you can get on top of the steak?
The Stockyards will be on the lower end of your list. Steak 44 is solid

We’ve had National Sales Meetings in Scottsdale the last 8 years plus one or two other times out there. Can’t remember all the restaurants

Going out of Charlotte on a reputable airline for $650ish is nice for us. Better than BWI. Ha

I saw online Mastros and Steak 44 both have a dress code. I think that tells me a good bit about the quality.

This is about for the players and their battle in the field to determine the winner. This is what sports is all about. This is not about your feel-good vacation. You take your vacation elsewhere. This is also helps more fans able to attend the game. People are there for the game and cheers for their team to win. Take your vacation elsewhere.

With all due respect, I don't think ECC understands JK's use of SARCASM (notice the eyes roll).

@Cider Jim I was absolutely saying Baltimore is a bad idea for a bowl. Ask the players if they’d like to play a bowl game in. Baltimore vs. Phoenix, I think they’d choose Phoenix.

But in a vacuum, if PSU and LU were to play a neutral game during the season, I could see Baltimore being an ideal location between the two schools. So I think I get what ECC is trying to say. I just wouldn’t put a bowl there.

Bowl games are an effort by host cities to generate revenue. Fans must travel and spend money. The problem with Baltimore is everyone would day-trip it, and the city would net a big loss.

And PSU would never play that game.

Yeah. Bowls care about $$ and exposure. Teams like going somewhere different to play a game that is mostly a step between exhibition and regular season. Unless you are in the CFP

I completely understand your point and I accept it. However, I am just making a point for a couple of reasons. First, I am looking out for the students who are the 18, 19, 20, 21 years old who cannot afford to spend over a thousand dollars on airfare, hotel, food, ticket, etc. @J37, you maybe financially blessed and that’s good for you that you can spend money and support LU all the way to AZ. But not everyone has the finance to afford the trip. I was a D1 athlete and relied on my scholarship. The scholarship was not even enough and needed to get student loan to help pay the rest of my tuition. Second, this should be mostly for the college students experiences that they can go and support their team in person. When I was a student athlete, I developed relationships with other regular students besides my teammates and they come and watch most of our home games. I’ve had an upper classman tutor me in one of my classes and really helped me pass the class. He would come watch me play because deep inside he felt that he was part of me playing in that field because he helped me pass the class. As he should and I appreciated him. He used to play baseball in high school but he was not good enough to play D1 baseball. This is just an example. There are various reasons that students wants to come and support the players and team.
I am just looking out for those young men and women so they can have the best college experiences they can have.
However, it is a moot point because the game is in AZ. I was just trying to make a good point.
Nothing against anyone.

Blake Baumgartner gave the Fiesta Bowl & Liberty some love in ESPN's bowl season preview this morning:

Link: https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... watch-2023
Which New Year's Six bowl game are you most looking forward to? Oregon and Liberty have made the lives of opposing defenses miserable all season long and that should set the stage for a very entertaining Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. Both teams feature dynamite quarterbacks, Bo Nix (Oregon) and Kaidon Salter (Liberty), who lead the second-and-third-best offenses, respectively, in the country -- Oregon at 526.6 YPG and Liberty at 514.9 YPG. We know Jamey Chadwell and the Flames will be excited to be there with Salter (3,814 total yards and 43 total touchdowns) leading the way for the first Conference USA team to reach the New Year's Six. Can the Ducks put another three-point loss to Washington in the rear-view mirror and allow Nix (4,145 passing yards with 40 TDs) to conclude his collegiate career in proper fashion?
Which under-the-radar player should we have our eyes on? Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter has been the point man for a program that leads the nation in rushing (302.9 YPG), is third in total yards (514.9 YPG) behind LSU and Oregon and has gotten off to the program's first-ever 13-0 start. Salter, who transferred from Tennessee, has accumulated 3,814 total yards (2,750 passing) and 43 total touchdowns (31 passing touchdowns) on the way to piloting an offense averaging 40.8 points a game (fifth in all of FBS). Seven times this season, Salter has accounted for at least four total touchdowns in a game as the Flames have tallied at least 30 points in all but one game this season (a 21-16 win over Sam Houston on Oct. 5).
