SuperJon wrote:"Yea, we're completely out of your league, but we're going to celebrate like we just pulled an upset. Who cares that we've won this 7 of 9 years!"Come on now, SJ... It was an close game to decide the Big South Championship. The fact we had won 6 out of the past 8 didn't matter to the fans. This was the one we were playing now. This was the one to make sure Torrell, Craig, and Phillip made it back to the NCAA Tournament one more time. There doesn't have to be an upset for fans to rush the court. Winning a championship is enough of a reason. I don't really see a problem with it. Having said that, I was not one of the people who rushed the court (it looked to me like most of them were students). I have done it in the past, but sadly I am not in "court rushing" shape anymore.

but I just read this post (on page 3) and have'nt even gotten to the rest of the thread yet- but had the same thought yesterday.

how 'bout acting like you've been there before. You just BARELY beat a sub-500 team on your OWN COURT thanks to them MISSING a shot. Don't QUITE think that calls for rushing the court.
In fact, that whole game made me re-think my admiration for this team. After that bracket buster game- I was pretty sure they would cakewalk into the tourney and possibly win a couple. Now, I don't see them even making a run at ONE win.
That was a real eye-opener. For the sake of the BSOUTH, I hope I'm wrong- but looks like this team may have peaked. Either that or Marshall knows how to get the most out of his guys- but failed to do so yesterday.
*I will now read the rest of the thread (post-SJ's comment) and see who agreed and disagreed. I'm WONDERING WhU will have an issue with his comments
SuperJon wrote:Celebrating as a team is fine. I just don't think rushing the court when you beat the 6th place team in the conference is called for. That's my opinion. When there is still business within the conference to take care of, I am against a big celebration. When you win a region in the NCAA's you still have work to do but not until you get to the final 4 so I say it is ok to rush the court then. If you have a net cutting celebration and a trophy being awarded, I think rushing the court is fine. SJ you are just more conservative in this area than I am but that's ok.
I've won things before and it's a great feeling.
Here's my best way to describe it:
My junior year my high school made the playoffs in baseball for the first time in school history (only the 4th year it was open). We won the first game and celebrated.
The next year, we lost the first round.
The year after that, we won the first round. We didn't celebrate because we'd already been there before. We won the 2nd round but didn't celebrate because we had been there before. We won the third round to go to the state semis and celebrated because we were going into unchartered waters and a place that no other team at the school had done.

That's my opinion. It wasn't a rushing of the court for beating VMI per se...it was rushing the court for winning the championship. It could've been CSU or LU or HPU and the fans would've done the same thing. Either way, I understand what you are saying, but I'll tell you right now, if WU wins the tournament again next year, the same thing will happen, regardless of opponent, preseason expections, etc.
