News & Observer wrote:UNC faces dilemma as another round of conference realignment begins, amid ACC uncertainty

The number is six.

There’s talk around the ACC that if just six current members decide they want out and legally challenge the league’s grant of rights, the rest of the conference — and the deal that tethers it together — could come crumbling apart.

That’s not a guarantee that the contract signed by every ACC member, originally in 2013 then again for an amended version in 2016, can be broken.

How did the PAC 12 let it get so bad so suddenly?!

Hint: it wasn’t so sudden.

That said, breakup the ACC.

B1G gets: wake, cuse. Pitt, GaTech, UNC, UVA, Duke
SEC gets: VT, FSU, Clemson. NC State, Miami, Louisville

BC can go screw themselves. Always and forever will hate them the most. Tickled pink to see them so irrelevant.

I saw this posted on another site. Cracked me up.

Outside of Alabama and Georgia in the SEC, and Ohio State, and on the rare occasion Mich or Sparty, who else makes those conferences superior to anyone? Rutgers, Vandy, Tennessee, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Kentucky, Miss St, Florida, Northwestern, Nebraska, Auburn?? ATM has a brand and a relatively famous coach, but they were no real power house in the big 12. USC and UCLA both suck, as does every other team in the PAC 12.

Except for the Ohio State comment, Ballcoach could have written most of that. :oldhag

After the ACC gets raided … turn what's left into a great mid-Atlantic conf. The "2" super confs are being constructed for national TV. The rest need to be regionalized.

NC State
Wake Forest
Duke
Virginia Tech
Liberty
ODU
JMU
East Carolina
Charlotte
APP State
Marshall
Coastal Carolina

I read a good article that said the 12 team playoffs is still on the table and likely. And that every FBS team will have a pathway in, might be a slim one but there.

I thought this was always the case. All of the conferences want it expanded they just disagreed on the size, timing and who should own the tv rights. An expanded cfp is almost guaranteed to happen at this point as soon as the tv contract expires.

minus, wake and syracuse In the B1G i agree. The AAU university membership will play a role with B1G expansion and Pitt, GT, UVA, UNC, and Duke are all members. i think wake will be in the SEC or get left out and it will be wake, BC and Syracuse left in the ACC they will raid AAC, SBC, and CUSA.

Wake
BC
Syracuse
UConn
ECU
Liberty
Charlotte
App State
ODU
Coastal
JMU
Marshall
GA State
FAU
USF
Memphis (if wake is in B1G or SEC)

The SEC doesn't need to add teams. B10 can add whoever, but they will still not be as strong as SEC. 16 SEC teams will be better conference than any amount the B10 can come up with, regardless of who they add. The more teams in a conference, the more difficult a balanced schedule will be. Ohio State will still get fat off cupcakes within conference. Pollsters will still rank B10 teams, just to make it appear Ohio State "plays someone"., so they can get in playoffs.
Heck, the SEC's western division is tougher than anything the B10 could assemble. Even if they were to add that school from South Bend, Indiana.

It doesn't matter if the SEC "needs," to add teams. What matters is if a new team will increase the revenues to the teams already there.

I just saw this post over at csnbbs that shows we were in the top 5 in athletic spending in the G5 last year (excluding teams that are moving up to P5). The only other G5s that are outspending us are in the AAC. I didn't realize we were that far up there. Hopefully that along with the success that is likely to come with it makes us much more attractive in the next round of realignment. We definitely know more is coming sooner than later.

To me this looks like total revenues, not spending. Regardless, $52M in revenue is fantastic for our program and puts us in the top tier of G5 like you said.

Pretty good stuff!

It says revenue but in practice it is expenses. Schools are notorious for using creative bookkeeping to make revenues match expenses even when revenues fall short. I guarantee our athletic department isn't actually making $52 million without help from the academic side. Either way it still says a lot about how much the administration cares about winning.

I was reading another forum and stumbled across this post.
.
These days, there's a difference between Baylor and TCU.

Baylor retains its Baptist heritage and commitments, though less than 25% of the students come from a Baptist background. They require one Bible class and chapel for freshmen. It's a place where the students are generally conservative, but the faculty and administration generally are not. It's nothing like Liberty, but a secular university administrator still wouldn't be comfortable with it. Stanford and Cal wouldn't touch Baylor with a ten-foot pole.

TCU, on the other hand, is practically non-sectarian today. It still recognizes its history with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), but does not require chapel or any religion courses. It is secular in its orientation. Christian is its middle name, and that's about it. The school promotes itself as "TCU" as opposed to "Texas Christian University". It is secular enough that a school like Stanford would be comfortable with it.
This is sad in a number of ways.

That says a lot about how much of a bubble these universities live in not to mention how intolerant they are. My hope is that the Big 12 starts poaching pac 10 schools and leaves Cal behind as an independent since they would refuse to be in the same conference as BYU and Baylor.

Stanford yes, Cal - not so sure about that. If the B1G gets B1Gger on the West Coast, pretty sure Cal is at the bottom of a list that includes Stanford, Oregon, and Washington (in that order).

Oh I agree. Cal isn’t really that desirable but they would probably be a package deal with someone. Most likely Stanford

Cal is connected to UCLA through the Cal university system. I’m a little surprised UCLA was permitted by the state to split with them.
