I've been watching FoxBussness, Fox and Newsmax and thinking about what we saw today. I think the people in Washington today have been watching to many protest and noticed violent protesters getting good press and real change. It's all messed up.

That would not have helped at all. Again, you or I were not the target audience. He was for all intents and purposes walking people back from a ledge (we can talk about whether he led them there or not later). They needed to hear that they’d been heard, he understood and what HE wanted, because theoretically they were doing this for him, was them to go home in peace. And if I am correct, that’s what happened. I don’t think there’s been any burning or looting. I don’t think they’ve attempted to storm the Capitol again. It appears it worked.

Tbh, watching the proceedings tonight, today might be the thing that saves the Republican Party. People are jumping off the Trump train as fast as they can. It’s like watching alcoholics reach rock bottom.

I'm beginning to tire of the "Outrage" from politicians and media over protests outside the Capitol today, when they didn't give a rat's rear end when BLM and Antifa were looting and tearing up the downtown in my city for nights on end. They waxed poetic during the long term occupation of cities all over the country and did little or nothing while the cities burned. Most have still not recovered. Maybe it's time some politicians come hang out after hours with me and my shotgun in my store when looting and pillaging is going on a little more than a mile away. Maybe today they felt some of the fear that their ineffective leadership has cultivated. I don't condone violence in any form, but how many lives were lost and people's businesses destroyed this summer by all the "peaceful" protests that these politicians did nothing about while the liberal media justified it. Selective outrage in politics is the norm, but it doesn't really play well in the real world.

There’s a nugget in your post that I saw tonight, perhaps differently than you intended- some of the senators I listened to made an about face on their position about challenging the election. The change? The results of them stoking the outrage showed up at their door.

The election is over. I am moving on and hopefully the conservative movement starts worrying less about one man and his feelings and more about conservative ideals.

I thought this was great from Mitt Romney tonight. Many here will probably not agree. That is fine. It makes for a good last post for me in this thread. He sums up my thoughts pretty well.

His truth and their truth are two different things. Do you think the people outside this afternoon believe a word he says?

On another note I just saw straight on video of Ashli Babbit getting shot today. I have questions. Yes climbing through the window of a barricaded door isn’t a great idea. But someone was apparently super trigger happy on the other side. There were Sergeant of Arms and Police present on the side she was at. Not sure why the other side was so quick to shoot

The Capitol building was overrun for the first time since 1814. Every single one who broke into the building were committing federal crimes. Who says they were quick to shoot? Seems to me the fantastic men and women in blue were standing their ground, protecting themselves and our hollowed institutions from agitators and thugs.

Your first statement isn’t exactly true but it’s been a great talking point
As for the shooting, have you seen the video? If it’s still up I’ll be more than happy to post it but I’m thinking it might violate some rules. My first reaction was similar to yours “Don’t try to jump through a window of a barricaded door with armed men on the other side”. But after watching the video...I have questions

It seems like the Capitol police were at least underprepared for this. They held barriers and pushed back more aggressively against more people than this all summer.

I’m not sure why they weren’t ready, maybe it will come out in the coming days. We had plenty of forewarning that this event could and probably would turn ugly. Did they have certain orders that prevented them from acting more firmly? Was it some kind of bias about the people involved?

We do know that Pence had to overstep the president to activate the national guard, so it makes me wonder if guidance from the White House had anything to do with it.

I think you can tell that most people who made it in did not realize the gravity of what they were doing. They’re walking the halls, sitting at desks, taking selfies, as if they were just on a sightseeing tour. In actuality, they were a mob that overran the seat of government in our country. I’m surprised there wasn’t a more violent response from the authorities. I’m also grateful that more people didn’t get hurt because of it.

This is excellent reporting. The scene looks like something from a destabilized regime.

And don’t worry, it’s not an hour and a half Voddie Baucham talk. Just 7 minutes

That's as horrable as the burning I saw this past summer. I wish both political parties had united against this kind of behavior then?

The difference in this report and a Dr Voddie message is, he has answers.

Why parrot a media talking point that is demonstrably untrue?

Oh, and a Democrat President (Carter) later pardoned these terrorists.

That’s fascinating, I’d never heard about that. I’d give @rhezick the benefit of the doubt that he had never heard about it either.

The rumor is apparently that Carter commuted the sentences in exchange for the release of CIA operatives in Cuba, obviously we did not confirm this.

Also, that trans-Atlantic accent in the news report is just so silly to me. Trying to talk all fancy lol

Almost like you have to be from another country to look at this objectively. In my opinion, Trump’s election and the events of the last four years - all the way up to yesterday - are a direct result of the total breakdown of the principle of objective truth in this nation’s discourse. And for that, there is a LOT of blame to go around. The media traded truth for $$$ starting ~30 years ago. And we are to blame as a people for letting them do it.

Not sure if/how we go back.
