I understand if he might want the Auburn job. I don't necessarily blame him. I wish he would stay at least another year or two. He leaves now and it sets our recruiting back years.

I dont think thats the case. They may offer and he may go but from everything ive heard in the last 2 days and from mansons rumor mill we are still recruiting.

I also want to add that I believe that in the end the Auburn job will go to Cristobal. The comments above apply to leaving in general.

This. Let’s be realistic folks. We caught lightning in a bottle - right time, right place, and we were the only school with stones big enough to give him a chance. If he leaves, his two years here were a win/win for everyone.

You can keep the tin foil on the roll. If anything it may be coming down to every other recruiter claiming they have inside info that Coach Freeze has agreed to leave even if it is an outright lie. It could also be as a result of seniors choosing to stick around for another year limiting scholies for next season. Or it could be that we are in on higher ranked kids that will suddenly appear on Signing Day on Wednesday.

Jimmy Sexton represents both Coach Malzahn and Coach Freeze and nearly every other coach of any substance in the South. In fact, it is a rare SEC coaching change that doesn't directly involve Sexton and it generally involves going from one of his clients to someone else in his fold.

Will I be disappointed if he leaves after only 2 years with how much fun this has been? Absolutely.

But I wouldn't be angry. I understand it. It would be a storybook kind of redemption story. He loves the SEC.

Now how does his family feel about it, especially his wife? That is the real kicker. From everything he has said publically, if he gets offered the job it'll be his family that gets the final say.

We shall see i guess.

The rise of our football program sped up because of Freeze but Ian has put all of the tools in place to be successful here. If he gets bought out and leaves, I think we will be able to attract a quality coach and still be a winning program.

Ultimately, this is one of the very few programs I could see him leaving us for. We shall see.

He has been out of college coaching for a few years now after being ousted at Baylor amid controversy, yet his name continues to surface in various forms on the coaching rumor mill (as it did with Liberty today). We probably have not heard or seen the last of Briles, but hiring him will come with extreme scrutiny and pushback.
Also saw where McMurphy , Stadium, said Briles to Liberty if Freeze goes to Auburn.

It is mindblowing just how expensive it is during this pandemic to blow Malzahn & Company out of Auburn.
Football Scoop wrote:Auburn Buyouts: On top of Gus Malzahn’s buyout ($21.45 million), Steve Berkowitz shares that if no assistants and no members of the strength staff are retained, they will be owed a combined buyout total of about $8.3 million, subject to duty to mitigate. Defensive coordinator Kevin Steele would be owed a buyout of about $5 million and offensive coordinator Chad Morris would be a due a $900k buyout.

Ballcoach is focused on a bowl game and the start of preseason softball practice in January. He doesn't have time for anything else.

Auburn throwing money at a guy to leave while some programs are struggling to stay afloat. I think this is a bad move for them. Gus a good coach. It just doesn't seem like a good time to throw that type of money around.

Cristobal is getting a lot of run as is sark. Their twitter fan base isnt near as thirsty for freeze as the vols are.

Also it doesnt seem like he was a real candidate for usc unless of course he turned them down but no way to know that.

Rumor is oregon is desparately trying to get an extension down with cristobal.

Also a good sign that hes still retweeting asor commitment and top 25 tweets. To me, that means its not a done deal for sure even if he was the target.

Why would he want to go BACK to Auburn.
This year doesn’t count but he’d lose a year with the transfer unless they change the rules

He and Freeze have done wonders for each other in my opinion. I saw this brought up somewhere and thought it wasn't possible but I guess thatis not true.

I DID say that the only SEC jobs that could lure Freeze away would be Tennessee and Auburn. Well...I really thought Auburn would give Gus at least one more year. I know Freeze would be a target, but Hugh did commit on College Gameday that he is staying. Assuming he stays, what are the odds he lures Gus Malzahn to LU for an assistant role.

What we still don't know is whether he's actually being seriously pursued by these schools. The media has been all chatter early each time but hes not been deep in woods on any of these jobs from what is known thus far.

I expect at some point we will know whether he's turning down jobs, schools are still scared/Sankey block combo or what.

I still think if he was the slam dunk target they were after and he was interested there would already be some credible rumblings. It does complicate it Gus is a good friend.

I've seen a couple post about the family on here. I have to say...I would be a little surprised if he left this year. Call me naive or whatever...but I think his family weigh much more heavily in his decision making now than 5 or so years ago. If they are happy and they prefer to stay on the mountain....i don't think he's leaving. And based on his comments several weeks ago, he still has things he wants to accomplish at LU. I guess we'll see soon enough; I think HCHF stays, if for no other reason, because LU provides him something more substantial right now than a career. Either way, he has been a blessing for our school.
