If all else were equal regarding Nasser's "market value" as a speaker, I would have no problem with asking a commensurate honorarium if that were how he provided for his family. Clearly it is not. Having been blessed financially with a half million a year coming into his family from Liberty, he should be willing to minister to a local congregation occasionally without asking for that kind of money.

I would agree a way to build relationships in the community would be for the person in his position to speak at local churches for no fee. That’d be a great change moving forward.

thepostman wrote: August 30th, 2020, 10:32 am I disagree and I know for a fact that my pastor in DC regularly speaks in the DC metro area free of charge because building up local churches is important.

This pastor is a best selling author and probably could get away with doing that but doesn't.

Good relationships with local churches is important and sfuff like this is alienating.
I will agree with your disagreement. Locally he should set aside dates to speak gratis. Probably could write it off as some type of donation. It is great Public outreach and helps local churches bond with the Big Dog in the area. It literally costs him nothing to speak in the area. Maybe a “free will offering” but $3500? Nope

I know of a far bigger name than Nassar who doesn't charge anything for speaking fees, including travel costs, and does a lot of it. Now, he is wealthy and can afford it, but many wealthy people charge regardless. By comparison, Nassar is wealthy enough to speak at a local, LU supporting church without charging.

I remember hearing a story of one such individual speaking at the big men’s conference at LU several years ago. The stories I heard about that situation made me smile

3500, I wouldn't give him $3.50 to speak. And with the money he makes, he should go to Belks and buy some clothes that fit.
Yes, he wore skinny jeans this morning.

If I had known in advance he was speaking, I would have gone to another church.

Since you won’t tell us why you don’t like him one can only deduce that it’s a matter of jealousy or he drowned you pet goldfish.

I don't think he's a "big name". Go 5 miles from campus, and probably 99% of the population doesn't know who he is.

He’s attached to a Big Name (Liberty) by reasoning of his Title and Position.

Genuine question-- I see we are complaining about what he wore this morning, etc. But what was the message like? Was anyone able to listen? I feel that's more important than how tight his jeans were.

Just conjecture - but there’s likely a ton of things going on behind the scenes. With the bench TRBC has, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him not preach for a few weeks.

I figured he’d come out today and say something. Or take a few weeks and start a series on family, healing, “What Gods shown Me” etc. Looks like option B

Jonathan did speak, but Nassar delivered the keynote message of the morning. Jonathan stated he was struggling with what to say.

TRBC doesn't have a strong bench.

Why do you say that?

Either because they are too young, don't wear a suit, or TF doesn't like them or a combination of those reasons.

Just an educated guess.

Don't want to answer in "writing ". But 99% of the time when Jonathan is not preaching, it isn't announced in advance. If it was, a lot of the flock would skip

That’s the same way at most churches. Leadership knows the majority of immature people view other pastors as less than and, like you, would skip.

I hope for the health of your church @ballcoach15 , that your attitude is not shared by many. That kind of attitude has destroyed many churches.

I have no idea who is on the bench at TRBC today, but back in MY DAY it was:

Ed Hindson
Eddie Dobson
Sumner Wemp
Harold Wilmington

Jim Moon as well, but IMHO he got more PT (pulpit time) than he should have.
I loved Doc, but I was never disappointed to discover Hindson or Dobson would be preaching.
