I don’t think so. Know many crude business owners and CEOs. Called freedom of speech. Not always tasteful, but if we get fired for everything we put on social or say - we would have no business leaders. I’m not saying that he shouldn’t be disciplined - just not fired.
Owners and CEOs.. not employees. I plan on using Jerry as an example in my HR Law class next semester. He is an employee of the board and you know how boards are supposed to work.
His actions are indefensible; the ECU President was fired for much less. That our standards are lower than the premier party school in NC shows how far we have gone exchanging values for the almighty dollar.

The numerous behavior examples are just fruit. I was ready for Jerry’s removal when he made it clear that he does not want to bare any responsibility for the spiritual direction or welfare of the University. He made it very clear that he does not view himself as having any responsibility - but rather looks for faculty, students and the campus pastor to keep LU strong spiritually.

LU deserves a president who is a leader and who is intimately vested in the spiritual direction of the school.

I don’t even know what that exercise is? Now if he was bench pressing them or squatting or something. But I’m not sure what you are accomplishing with the Weighted Pelvic Thrust especially with 2 young ladies on there.

Thanks Hoop for summarizing. Trying to keep up with a 2670 page thread has been difficult. A lot of post just say the same thing over and over. All the things you mentioned are not fireable offenses, IMO. Maybe something the BOT should have a discussion with him about twitter and not to be quick to tweet. Maybe a suspension, but not firing. Sounding intoxicated? Really... That's a pretty BIG Assumption.
Hmmm. Just WHAT IS your red line? You are saying just a "maybe" to a "discussion" and/or a "suspension".
I think Jerry has earned a few screwups. Don't want to hear about masks and boat thing anymore - those were both blown way out of proportion and one wasn't racist and the other wasn't a party on a boat. My redline is letting BOT handle and trust they know what they are doing. We all say stupid things - doesn't mean we shouldn't be employed. We live in a snowflake society these days.
You are right, it doesn't mean he shouldn't be employed. It just means he shouldn't be employed at LU. In any business or gov't agency I know of, when the representative becomes a liability to the entity proper, and the other "shareholders", it's time to cut them loose to find "other opportunities". He has hurt the university's reputation, and by extension.... other persons who have ownership in the university, i.e. students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc. While some may agree with his political position and even his antics...the overall representation he has perpetuated has been at the very least...unprofessional, indifferent, and unbecoming of a Christian University President. He may not be a "pastor", but at least reflect being a "Champion for Christ" if you're leading an institution that is supposed to be training them.

There have been several "screwups" noted. You seem to be extremely defensive of some indefensible behavior. Respectfully, is there a connection with Jr that causes what some may call "loyalty" and others "enabling"?

Would you extend this grace if he was a Liberal? Probably not.
Trying to think of another University President say at UVA or Stanford or Michigan calling one of their students retards.
I can’t imagine a president at any accredited university being stupid enough to even say it even in a private room where he’s the only occupant.

That's one of the crazy lifts that James Harrison does, except he has about 1400 pounds on the bar.

Not sure why you say that. I have been pretty consistent. Never said that Jerry shouldn't be reprimanded, or even maybe fired. If the BOT knows more then we do. I just don't like the social media distortion of facts and bashing of a person who very few on this board know personally. He stepped down and apologized. What else are we expecting? Him to retire to Florida and run a club? Not going to happen - his family is engrained at LU and he will remained involved.

If he is committed to becoming better then I'm sure most would welcome him back. At least most on this board. Just not as the president. He has proven over and over again for several years that he isn't fit to be the face of a Christian University.

On one hand you say Trust the Board. On the other you say What we see isn’t worth what the Board did.
So are you saying none of the behavior you’ve seen in Public Or Social Media warrants the action the Board took?

I'm saying it warranted some sort of action. Some of the stuff was in bad taste, and I understand the "Placed on Leave" action. I'm saying that I would support the BOT on whatever they decide - because they have the whole story. But, IMO, I don't think the BOT will outright fire him, because I think what he has done does not warrant that drastic of action.

Proto, if you'd be so kind, help the rest of us understand.

What would, in your opinion, be something (or a series of things) he would have to do to earn termination?

Not exactly a liberal source here and an insight that this is not going to go away if the board decides go bring him back.

https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2020/au ... -president

A group of pastors who graduated from Liberty University are urging the college's board of trustees to "permanently remove" Jerry Falwell, Jr., from his role as president of the Christian school founded by his late father.

On Thursday, in a letter addressed to the board of trustees and Dr. Jerry Prevo, who has chaired the board since 2003 but is now serving as acting president of the university, 50 ministers from churches around the country argued the college "is in need of new leadership that represents the heart of Liberty University's mission."

"It is because of our deep love for Liberty University and our great optimism for its future that we write to you today to urge you, the Board of Trustees, to permanently remove Mr. Falwell as president and chancellor and replace him with a new leader," the letter reads. "We do not write out of any personal vendetta against Mr. Falwell. We recognize that under his leadership, since his father's death in 2007, the school has experienced significant financial and institutional growth and added important programs that are poised to shape a generation of Christian leaders in nearly every field of study."

Would have been nice if the story would provide a link to the letter so we could see who it was actually from.

This list of pastors who signed that letter is quite the diverse collection of people from all era's of Liberty which just proves the point even more that this isn't political.

The board is scheduled to meet again soon. I'd imagine this will be a letter that garners some attention.

Thanks. Interesting no local (Lynchburg area) church pastors on there. I hope the list continues to grow.

There was a pastor from Temple Baptist in Madison Heights. I don't know if he is the Senior Pastor or not. I was surprised to see it. It's kind of gutsy, even though admirable, for a local pastor to do this.

IMO...

Something Illegal - An arrest - not hearsay.
An extra-marital Affair - Confirmed by himself or Beckie.
Stealing from the University - confirmed and not hearsay.

I would argue that Spout Spring is in the Lynchburg area.

I went to high school with Spencer. Doesn't surprise me that he would do something like that, mainly because he does like to do things to get his name out there.
