I'm still holding out hope that he's about to get Jeff Barbered.

It sounds like TG can keep his current staff, and STILL add a new defensive coordinator to start Jan. 1, and just shift the Wimberly and the rest of the defensive staff around. At least reading between the lines that's what I think is happening. What you are suggesting is possible. Of course, that doesn't mean it will happen. We currently have 4 defensive assistants compared to 5 on offense, so the additional coach will almost certainly be on D. 2 years ago TG relieved Stamn of OC duties and promoted Daley. Would he do that with Wimbo and hire a new DC? One can hope.

Looking at depth the units as a whole I would say most areas have improved.

These three units have gotten better in a major way in Gill's tenure.

To me, that's about as shortsighted as you can get but it is what it is. We'll be complaining for at least another year.Retaining a coach because of ‘Early Signing Period’ is silly. Should not even factor into the equation

My gut is this is something they wanted leaked out to distract from the money being the real issue. If we say we're excited about the recruits coming in then there's hope that things will get better.Jonathan Carone wrote:I'd heard one of the reasons - along with the money - they kept this staff is because we're having a good recruiting year. Jonathan Carone wrote:Stil a stupid reason. That’s basically saying whoever they brought in couldn’t recruit. So using that philosophy you could never fire a coach.Purple Haize wrote:I was told it was less the early signing period and more the overall recruiting class. R i wrote:I would not say either our kicking or DBs have improved. Probert can kick, but was poorly utilized (did not attempt a FG in 5 consecutive games, and then surprise, surprise, struggled when called on.). We had a bunch of FG and extra points blocked as well.flameshaw wrote: The ONLY place we have improved in the last 6 years is at QB. Better to have him right now than fire him and not get who we want when they get into their off season and wind up tied to a 4 year contract with our 3rd choice. This sounds logical.
