In that sketch, the Tower on the student side is obvious. What is not so obvious, is the demolition of the FOC. In that photo, it looks like a section of seating is being added in the endzone, and the new FOC will be built on to the back of those seats. It reminds me a ton of University of Washington stadium. Check out their FOC.

It is an idea, more likely a tentative idea, that they'll destroy the previous FOC and rebuild another facility with a bigger locker room and offices. I'll try to find the video that I posted before where a person connected with athletics made the gesture while talking about the bill's expansion.

I've heard an unexpected twist with the IPF is that with lightning, they have to shelter in place. Meaning if they are at the FOC they can't goto the IPF to practice. I would expect at minimum something to connect the two to make them "One Building" will happen soon.

Also is the new dorm supposed to be ready for this fall?
Is there a use plan for the Docs Diner building?
If you look at the master plan, it will show a fountain being located by the IPF. There will be a round about there (the fountain will be in the middle). As for Doc's, I'm not sure what's going to happen at the moment, but there is an idea to build a new arena(with Doc's being inside of it) and a parking garage in the back.

The issue with things like FB comments is we get:

1. People that hate Liberty.
2. Old fuddy duddies that are sentimental to an obsolete building.
3. Ignorant people that don't understand how different colleges need their own facilities.
4. People that just outright hate change.

What compounds the issue is that 2, 3, and 4 can all be LU fans and Alum, but are just outspoken and their comments look just like #1.

I consistently have customers at work that are working construction on campus. They understand the value that all of this construction has for the greater Lynchburg area. Sadly, many people native to the area can't see past "HurrDurr Libertyville" and can't understand how much the local economy completely relies on LU. From the exploding food options in Lynchburg to the two new hotels under construction on Wards, Liberty and by proxy Lynchburg not only grew but thrived during the Great Recession. Most cities can't make that claim.

With that being said, that is why Lynchburg is the eighth healthiest and happiest city on Gallup and Health ways 2016 studies. Something to add, Lynchburg News and Advance even discussed that Lynchburg's population is subjected to increase by approximately 18-20% in twenty years. This is true progress and a blessing. If anyone ever say that Liberty (with the blessings from the Lord) had nothing to do with this, then they're just ridiculous. Geaux Hill City!! Geaux LU!!

I was expecting much worse with how you described it.

I kinda was too but the point is that people just can't be happy for Liberty, and it's even worse when it comes from alums of the school

In that sketch it looks like an elevated walkway connecting both sides of the stadium.

Liberty would have a much better reputation with the natives and locals if it had some semblance of a positive public relations strategy. The attitude I've gotten is, "Well people are gonna hate us, so who cares."

The lack of empathy is often strong with Liberty when it comes to the community.

But.....buildings.....and money....

In my opinion, probably 60% of Lynchburg is Liberty, directly or indirectly. Possibly more.
I recall when Ward's Road had a night club, a Quick Stop, and a junk yard. That's all.

LU does need to have more community liaison., especially with athletics.

...arrogance like this doesn't help.

it was meant as a positive comment. you will be hard pressed to find anyone more LU loyal than me.
That's what was meant People so loyal to LU they can't see the forest for the trees. Basically your comment could be taken 'if it wasn't for LU Lynchburg would be nothing. Ergo, whatever LU does is good for the community and should never be questioned '.
The collateral damage and blowback is not something your comment or LU ever seem to care about

What is the damage that LU has done to Lynchburg? I would really like to know since you've brought it up. I also can say in my opinion that Lynchburg would've not been known period across the country or the world if it wasn't for LU. You don't need a LU fanatic to see that. I'm not saying everything is perfect when it comes to LU's actions, but I think it's silly when people bring in their opinion and assume it like it's a known fact. Could there be better relations with the school and the community? Yes, and I see that they're attempting to create that relationship. If it is collateral damage to bring more money, business, industry, research, visitors and new residency into the area, then that's fine with me I suppose.

Side Note: I don't think it's arrogant what Ballcoach said about LU taking over. You see many schools that have basically done so and their city/region thrived because of it. It's cool to disagree with the decisions that a school make, but initiating that a personal opinion is a fact is not helpful. I guess that's why folks initiately moved from forums to social media, but now even those are polluted with confusion and negativity.

LU has been great for Lynchburg. The powers that be will most certainly tell you that at every opportunity. Your own statement is testament to that. They don't take into account the promises broken, the bills not paid and/or the general sense of superiority and overlordship demonstrated by many.
Jerry Sr could get away with it.

There are several questionable actions that LU has made in the community that give people who "don't have a dog in the fight" reason to dislike them.

Legal action against the homeowners in Forest.
Losing the final resting place of the Moorman family (likely just building over them).
The local Christian school scholarship debacle.
Contributing to the demise of the mall by replacing retail space with office space.
Building a giant tower that's just high enough to be taller than the largest building in Lynchburg #because
Jerry Jr. attacking anyone who disagrees with him or Liberty on forums and news story comment sections. #thinskinned

These are just a few of the things that were off the top of my head from the last few years. Don't get me wrong, I love Liberty's mission but it is possible for a company to become to large for its own good and not be able to make decisions and act in accordance with its mission. From my perspective, that's the real danger that Liberty is in.

I don't think anyone argues whether they have a right to make any or all of the decisions they made. But it's like that old quote by Dr. Ian Malcom in Jurassic Park. Liberty is "so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should" take action in a lot of areas.

Well that's some information that I didn't know. Nonetheless the examples about the tower and Jerry Jr's reaction is another story. I don't think the tower is that big of a deal because it's taller than the bank of of the James building. Even I'd they wanted it taller, I don't really see that as a major issue. I do believe we should just continue to pray for Liberty and may God do His work.
