There are several questionable actions that LU has made in the community that give people who "don't have a dog in the fight" reason to dislike them.
Legal action against the homeowners in Forest.
Losing the final resting place of the Moorman family (likely just building over them).
The local Christian school scholarship debacle.
Contributing to the demise of the mall by replacing retail space with office space.
Building a giant tower that's just high enough to be taller than the largest building in Lynchburg #because
Jerry Jr. attacking anyone who disagrees with him or Liberty on forums and news story comment sections. #thinskinned
These are just a few of the things that were off the top of my head from the last few years. Don't get me wrong, I love Liberty's mission but it is possible for a company to become to large for its own good and not be able to make decisions and act in accordance with its mission. From my perspective, that's the real danger that Liberty is in.
I don't think anyone argues whether they have a right to make any or all of the decisions they made. But it's like that old quote by Dr. Ian Malcom in Jurassic Park. Liberty is "so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should" take action in a lot of areas.
