I think what we are seeing in college basketball specifically is the gap between power 5 conferences and mid-majors is shrinking due to a lot of things. Furthermore, it makes college basketball that much more exciting. Time to slap the Sun Belt in the face again today!

Halftime score LU 34 Appy 33 on a 3 by Reid at the buzzer. 32 fouls called in the first half; 18 on Liberty. Maxwell and Talbert with 3 each. Appy has shot 27 FT to our 12. There was also a technical on our bench. Not sure who, but easy to see why.

Final score App 73 Flames 62. The 2 things that stood out were they shot 19 more FT and made 17 more and Ryan Kemrite was 1-10 from the field and 0-2 from the line. Oh yeah. he also fouled out. Talk about a bad day at the office.

I honestly think we are going to see a few highs and lows this season. Frankly, with a pretty young team and a first-year coach, I fully expect us to lose games we may be expected to win (Lamar, Campbell) but it will also NOT surprise me if we keep it close or possibly pull off a win against a much better opponent (VCU, Winthrop). I still think this is going to be a truly rough season, but I fully believe McKay is already beginning to repair the damage that has been done the past few years.

Our starters have to bring their A game every night and not get into foul trouble or sustain any injury. With the 5 on the bench all freshmen and 4 sophomores starting our margin for error is razor thin. Dawson will be a welcomed relief next semester. This team will take more than its share of lumps but they are building the foundation for something really special.

It certainly can. If you have listened to any of Ritchies interviews in the last 6 months, one thing is clear. He is ¨all in¨ on this team learning the Bennett style man to man defense. (See what I did there Purple?) He used some zone on occasion in his previous tenure so it´s not like he knows nothing about it. If I were a betting man I would put down $$ that this team has not spent one minute of practice time on zone defense. Sure, he could have drawn something up on the white board at half time, and it´s not like the players have never played a basic zone before. No way of knowing for sure whether it would have made a difference in the foul situation, let alone in the final score. I suspect he considered it and decided that for the long term goal of building the program it was better to stay the course, even if it may have cost us a better chance to win one game.

Dawson is needed badly, we have nobody who can keep a man in front of them on the wing. Our guards got their lunch ate by guys who are not that good.

Pull on the reins a bit bud...we know we need Dawson but this is a very young squad with a new head coach. Some of these guys are new to college basketball in general. There will be growing pains this whole season. Dawson will be eligible soon enough and will help us out I agree, but no jumping off the proverbial bridge yet
