We all know they are hiring Bud Foster to continue their acceptance of mediocrity though.

If Bud Foster were a serious candidate, Frank wouldn't wait until the end of the year to retire. He would do it right now and allow Bud to take the reigns for the remainder of the season. That isn't happening because of two reasons. One, Babcock doesn't want any rumor that he asked Frank to resign. Two, Babcock doesn't want Bud Foster as the head coach.

For those of you who aren't aware of the Rich Rod situation, he and several of his players have been unhappy with the program recently. I've even seen reports that if Rich left, most of those players would follow him. Secondly, he and Babcock have a history together and Rich's home is in West Virginia. Frankly, he's the best coach that VT could hire at the moment and while he may not turn VT into a top 5 or 10 team, he'll make them competitive again.

I think RR could turn VT into a Top 10 team somewhat quickly. Over the past few seasons, VT has lost a lot of "20-17" type games., where one more TD would have meant a VT win. RR can fix that.

What has he done? The biggest Bowl win in WVU history was after he left. Michigan is just now recovering from his tenure. And AZ isn't exactly setting the World on fire

I don't know what to think of RR. He certainly didn't get a fair shake at UM, but he was never going to be a good fit there. He has had some success in Arizona, and we know what he did for WVU. Any Mountaineer fan who says anything bad about RR just has Sour Grapes. Same with LSU fans and Saban.

I hope VT gets a good coach. Beamer built that program, but it has been a few years since he should have left. Bud Foster isn't the answer.

The current AZ coach did a good job building up a program that was down. He had an entire States resources at his disposal. It shows a lack of good judgement and an inability to stick things out. If VT m Akers the mistake of hiring him, they will be looking for a new coach in 5 years and the Police blotter will bare a striking resemblance to the VT F B roster

Haize hasn't said anything inaccurate. RR was a perfectly mediocre coach until he accidentally discovered the read option and was forced to at Pat White after an injury to his chosen starter.

FWIW - I aint rooting for him. I was rooting for a change. Beamer had to go.

I want to say Pat White was the 3rd string QB. They also had studs at RB and WR. He could recruit.

RichRod has NINE conference or division titles under his belt including FOUR at Glenville State. And his overall head coaching record is 151–102–2, including 31-18 at Arizona.

Sure they're struggling this year, but Arizona finished the season ranked #17/19 in the country. They also won 10 games for only the second time in school history. The hatred runs deep.

Are WVU fans really that blinded by bitterness towards a coach who resurrected their program? You had two 11 win seasons, and one Big East championship before Rich Rod. During his tenure, you had three 11 win seasons, four Big East titles and finished second in the conference twice. He took over at Arizona, a school that hasn't had consistent success since the mid-90's, and has gone 8-5, 8-5 and 10-4. Frankly, if it wasn't for the Michigan mess, you WVU fans really have no argument.

(Also, keep in mind that the Pac-12 has been very strong since he arrived at Arizona. In 2013, five teams finished with 10 wins or more. Last year, eight teams finished with 8 wins or more and four with 10 wins or more. This year, the conference doesn't look as top-heavy but it certainly is deep.)

I don't think anyone would put Rich Rod in the same category as Chip Kelly, Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh...but he has certainly had success and would be a great fit at VT.

I agree sweat...while Im not VT fan, when you live in Virginia your whole life, you kinda end up following the program by default. I think Rich Rod would be just the shot in the arm that they need in Blacksburg. I also remember watching more than a few WVU games, including wins over the team that apparently has him at the top of their wish list. Other than 2001, they never came close to a losing record, went to a BCS bowl twice in his final three years, and if not for a loss to Pitt in the Backyard Brawl in 2007, end up playing for a national championship. If youre still bitter or butthurt or whatever word you want to use to describe how you feel about how he left, and youre a WVU fan...that is a sad existence you lead in MOrgantown or wherever you wear your blue and gold WVU gear.

It worked for LU and McKay.
Yeah but McKay left on a better note.
I hope it doesn't happen. He thought the daggers were out at Michigan. I mean Holgerson doesn't have a lot of love but neither does the other guy. I would rather have the guy coaching West Virginia's JV team in Huntington
