It would be great if we hire Avery Johnson and ESPN can still retain him for its ramped coverage of the NBA Playoffs. That would be a nice little play by Liberty University.

I covered AJ both with the Rockets & Spurs but he acted like he didn't remember me last time I interviewed him furing his Mavs coachig stint. He lives near me in The Woodlands. He is a great guy and understands how to sell a program. Of course, his collegiate ties are limited and I have no idea what ties he has with HS coaches. He certainly would get in living rooms here in Texas.

Could that be because he didn't actually remember you?

Obviously not saying it will definelty happen but we've got $$$ and Jesus so I don't see why Grant is so far fetched.
The situations with football and men's basketball are completely different. Gill's and Grant's situations were/are completely different too.

There are big similarities but huge differences too. The major difference being that Rocco had built the football job into a good job. The basketball job has the potential to be a great job but it's by no means there yet.

They are different but to ignore any similarities would be an oversight.

While basketball is currently not in of good as shape as football was after Rocco. Basketball by its nature can be turned around much quicker if the resources are there to back it (and I don't think anyone is questioning our ability to put resources behind a program).

That depends on your definition of turning it around. Based on the current roster, one good player would raise us from the bottom of a poor conference to the low-middle of the league. There is very little talent in the program.

If you would, please explain the similarities that you see.

Gill and Grant are both realitivly young black coaches who have had success in their intial head coaching gigs at schools that lacked tradition, resources ect. They both had jobs at big state schools that obviously didn't work out. They both have years of experiance under successful coaches at the highest level of college football and basketball respectively.

I'm of the opinion that they both have the potential to be great coaches they just were both put into poor positions that were never going to work.

A big question mark for me is that I don't know were Grant is with his faith. Whereas I know Gill takes it very seriously.

The similarities are obvious, he just stated it perfectly. Further Kansas is a basketball school with a crappy football program that everyone has failed at. Alabama is a football school that hasn't had a ton of success in Basketball either. He's actually the first name I've been excited about if he's a Christian and sincere. It's a great opportunity and there is tons of interest from what I've heard. Dot Richardson and Gill prove that a Grant like hire is possible. It may not be likely but it is possible.

You buried the lead, 09. No wonder I missed it at the time and when I looked back.

For the record, Grant is no TG or Dr. Dot when it comes to brand name. But he would certainly get the attention of many.

There are a slew of openings out there right now. It sounds like Mason wants to dip back into its past to get the son of their legendary coach.l

I've heard people on this board say that basketball coaches that recently started following Jeff Barber on Twitter may be interested or under consideration for the job. What's with Billy Donnavan at the top of his followers list????

I would encourage both of you to dig a little deeper. As far as personality and beliefs, I can't speak to that. There is virtually nothing about Grant's beliefs. Gill's beliefs and personality are pretty well known. As far as their coaching careers in their respective sports, they are significantly different. That is not a dig at either of them. It's just how it is.

No joke but I think you misread what I meant. I was saying what we have to sell a coach is the whole Jesus vibe going around campus and plenty of cash. To the right hire (like Gill and Dot) those two things are huge assets. I wasn't trying to say that God's favor is on Lib and so He'll be sending Tony Bennett down 29 or anything in that vain.

If a coach isn't viewing our Christian position as an asset IMO they aren't the right person for the job.
