In regards to getting that offer out in front of the bigger schools....I think that theory has real merit. But, I think a kid already has to have an interest in that specific school that is offering 1st. For example, Jacob has 2 offers and it really hasn't had a huge impact on him because the chances of him attending either of those schools is probably close to zero. However, he does have 6 schools in his mind right now that he is REALLY hoping will offer him--Liberty, ODU, Richmond, NC State, WVU and Delaware. Geography, familiarity and their level of demonstrated interest in him are probably the cumulative driving factors of why he has those specific 6 schools in his head. Because he already has an expressed interest in Liberty. If they offered today, that would immediately vault them to the top and he may never look back. So, I do think the idea of early offers is extremely valid when a kid is already sincerely interested in the school.

I am a West Virginia grad. So, he has been going to Morgantown 2-3 times every season since he was 2. Both of his parents/grandparents and every relative of his--WVU fans. Currently, WVU is by far showing the most interest. 2 coaches and a GA sometimes communicating with him more than once a day. So, obviously that is where his heart is swollen. But, I am trying real hard to explain the business side and that he has no offer from WVU as of today. Yes, they are expressing a bunch of interest and playing to his heart strings. But, I am trying to get him to see that he is obviously a back up plan to one of those 4 star offers they have out right now. Up until recently, a wvu offer would have been a dream come true to me...but, as time draws near to choosing a school, is that the right place for him? Will he get lost in the shuffle up there? Those questions will need to be answered by him. But, as WVU dangles that carrot in front of him...if Liberty came in and told him they want and need him in their program. I honestly think everything changes immediately. But, right now there really is nothing else distracting him from WVU and they are putting on quite a show. I thought I would enjoy this process...but, I can't wait until it is over. :I chortle audibly.:

Believe me, I have been selling Liberty. Tech in 2016, Baylor in 17. Samantha Steele video. Mom loves the religious environment. Dad likes the conservative culture. Maybe a real chance to compete for playing time. Less than 3 hours from home. Beautiful stadium. Great coaches. Whats not to love about Liberty!? But, they have to offer and they may never offer. But, I am glad I found this website...Liberty fans are great!
I am not one to toot my own horn alot, but this time I will toot toot. lol.

I hope people really didnt think that the coaches didn't. It may not be a perfect science to anything or anyone that they recruit, but they are human. They tell athletes all the time don't read your press clippings, don't get to high or to low, but it really is human nature. Everyone wants to do good things.

I don't know that I would go as far as "unprofessional" but I do think it can be "unwise" (especially if you're the men's basketball coach). :)

I have no idea how I missed the news that he had transferred to the Branch. Bummer for me and my son who loved watching him play last year! I'm really hoping for a great result for both Jacob and Liberty in this situation.

I think I have a man crush...... That's a lot of Mountaineer Pride right there. Like I said he could be something special at LU but having WVU as a back up plan isn't bad. I do guarantee our coaches swear less than the WVU coaches :D

On a totally different subject: I am just amazed of the efforts that LU has made to find a FBS conference home. Just from reading articles as far back as 3 years, I am sure y'all have been on quite an emotional roller coaster ride. I had no idea that all the conference realignment shuffling had such a trickle down effect on your school. In just about an hour, I have already an immediate dislike for the Sun Belt Conference. What a bunch of secularist snobs. On paper, LU has by far the most attractive resources to offer that conference and they keep snubbing their noses at the Christians. At least that was my initial objective perception of how they have handled their expansion studies. Conference USA, AAC and MAC should be looking to Lynchburg immediately. From what I have read, LU has more financial stability than most current members of each of those conferences. Better facilities and equal/better fan base. That isn't even mentioning the half million television sets in Lynchburg/Raonoke area.

I don't mean to bring up a sore subject that I am sure has been dissected a million times. But, I bet that entire issue is pretty frustrating to say the least. But, some day soon, a conference will open their eyes and be thankful LU was picked to join their conference. Being a WVU grad, the conference realignment shuffling had WVU very close to being on the outside looking into the P5. Obviously, things finally worked out for them because they had invested in facilities and had the rabid fan base. I truly believe that LU will also get to FBS as soon as one of these conferences can look beyond religion and make a decision on capability. Just an observation from the outside. I sure would like to hear your perspective.

Thanks!

Just wanted to let those interested that Jacob had just an incredible unofficial visit this past weekend. Liberty University just blew him away. The facilities, school and especially the folks in the football program made a very profound impression on him. From the time we arrived on campus until we left, Coach Dailey and Coach Gill made sure that he felt at home. I can't really even create words to describe what that visit did in terms of how Jacob perceives Liberty.

He didn't receive an offer because Coach Dailey wants to see him throw live again this spring. But, if that offer ever comes, it will be very hard for him to refuse. We have been to a bunch of places and I haven't seen him like a place like Liberty. So, no matter who ends up offering or ends up being in competition with Liberty...it will take quite a school to outduel the impression he has of your school. So, hopefully it all works out and he becomes a Flame. If not, we will always be grateful for the way we were treated this past weekend. Great stuff. Mom and Dad were so pleased with the spiritual world that LU will offer him. We are a very religious family and that won the both of us over for sure!

The offense LU runs fits Jacob perfectly. I can't see a better match to what they ask a QB to do and his strengths as a QB. As we watched the scrimmage, it was very encouraging to see that being so blatantly obvious. In summary, I hope that it works out and it becomes a reality soon. But, he will continue to try to keep getting better every day and wait for a possible invitation to join that great program. Jacob being able to graduate early and be a January enrollee may be a huge selling point for him. I sure would like to see him get the opportunity to learn the offense next spring and have the opportunity to compete with the QBs currently on the roster. They are going to take two QBs in this class. I hope I covered everything. Did I mention he really loved his visit? :D

It wouldn't shock me if we took as many as 3 if one or two were dual-threat athletes could be moved to another position if needed.

And I echo the appreciation for the reports, Hooks. You have certainly built a nice group of folks who would be cheering alongside of you if the offer comes down the pike.

Thank you SlyFox! If I was a Liberty graduate, I would be mighty proud of the direction of the program. But, mostly, I would be proud of how the staff emphasizes a relationship with Christ. So impressive!

Just heard on ESPN Radio 94.1 that Jacob was named one of the top 5 QBs at the Elite 11 Regional Camp in Washington DC

If you REALLY WANT someone why WAIT. Period. If you don't then so be it, we all know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Rumor was they needed to see him throw, right, I wonder if ALL the other QB's had to throw before getting an "offer". I guess that is also a question alot of wives have asked in the past to if you really want to be with me why are you waiting.

Apparently this kid was top 5 at the Elite Camp up here. Im not "throwing" anyone under anything

Really Hail Mary offers, just so you can tout we offered to, how bout concentrate on being the best you can be first and not worry about the rest. But alas, I am nothering but a father, coach and a fan, what more can you say.

I get your frustration. The coaches have a board and have made their initial round of QB offers. I would suspect there will be another batch going out soon. And I seriously doubt the Hail Mary offers are for show. They are more like lottery tickets. You don't expect to win, but you know that you never will if you don't get in the game. And it is not like we have been handing out offers like candy. Just a small handful our tens of thousands of prospects. Patience is never fun in the rescruiting game. But for those of us watching, it is a requirement if you want to keep your sanity.

The risk you take is not offering and another school coming in and a kid gets enamored with anther program and the ship sails. I've loved this kids skills since the first video I watched. Would love for us to pull the trigger.

trust me when I tell you Ive seen first hand when its said that we dont wanna offer this kid because we dont wanna ruffle the feathers of the kid who is already here NOT because hey this kid is better and will make us better but only because you dont wanna play mind games with the person already there. All the other positions go thru it. I understand it all, just don't have to like it. I HATE the GAMES these people play with KIDS that are SUPPOSED to be the ADULTS...SMH it absolutely makes me sick, but hey its their JOB

My guess forbidden is that they didn't get a chance to see him throw live this past season while they may have gotten to see some of the others. While I respect the fact that you have been a coach before, you aren't in the "war room" when they put this board together that obviously this kid was very high on. Much of the real action Im guessing will take place once we get into camp season just after the end of the school year, and then you will see who we are most seriously targeting. Coach Dailey sounds like he made a pretty significant impact on his initial visit, so Im guessing you'll see something at some point soon.
