In life, there are certain lines that are not meant to be crossed. Some of us try to get as close to the line without going over, some of us want to get right on that line, others will tentatively walk over it...and now I must resist the temptation to completely ignore the line and run way over it.

It's the first story on the homepage.
Considering this link is blocked at work under "Malicious downloads," I'm going to have to take this with a grain of salt until ESPN reports something. Ohio State is not leaving the B1G.

If the Big XII chooses to expand, the possibility of UT heading to either the Pac-12 or ACC goes up exponentially. With the latter, Swofford allegedly has offered an ND-esque arrangement. But that is very speculative.

Why would UT leave the SEC for the ACC, let alone the PAC-12? The Vols are perfectly content in the SEC.

Very funny, ATrain. As you well know, I'm not referring to that little school up in Knoxville.

It was ridiculous before the ACC grant of rights because the other leagues were about to pick it clean. The only leagues that Texas would consider under any circumstances are the Pac-12, ACC & B1G due to academic concerns. The SEC has always been a no go for that very reason. The ACC made big plays for Texas after the Pac-12 deal fell through. And they apparently would not be entirely opposed to UT maintaining its Longhorn Network in exchange landing the prize of the non-football UT programs along with a Nitre Dame-like scheduling agreement.

BYD - If Texas has its way, expansion will never happen.

Both have 3 AAU schools, both have flagship research universities. If Texas didn't want the SEC there are other reasons. I can think of a few.
Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and forever having to deal with UT being the University of Tennessee. In other words, their ego would get a boo boo.

As I see it, Texas has three options: stay in the Big XII, go to the ACC (either fully or an agreement like ND), or go independent. Too many obstacles with the Big Ten, SEC, and Pac-12. Independence is very unlikely, but is still an option for a school like Texas.

I think that Texas stays in the Big XII and the conference is eventually are forced to add two for a championship game. The other P5 conferences are not going to bail out the Big XII. The other schools/conferences might agree to change the current rules mandating two six team divisions for a conference championship game, but I doubt that they will remove the 12 team minimum. They have an advantage over the Big XII in the playoff format (whether 4 or 8 teams) and they aren't going to give it up easily, especially after everyone starts seeing the financial benefits from this year's playoff.

And this is a perfect opportunity for the NCAA to assert SOME of its power. I can see other teams not wanting to deal with Texas' Prima Donna attitude as well. Life is much easier if you keep it at 12 and a CCG

Haters gonna hate. The academic profile of the Big XII was much higher before the recent departures and additions (you know who I am referencing, Haize). The SEC's reputation in academic circles is nowhere near the level of the other P5 leagues. There are some fine institutions of repute in the SEC. Unfortunately the Bubba perception is tough for a school like Texas to swallow and yet a perfect fit for a strong academic school like A&M. The Aggies were always a better cultural and academic fit for the SEC. UT feels more of a kinship with the Stanfords & USCs of the Pac 12 and the Public Ivy schools in the B1G & ACC. If the B1G weren't in such a horrible decline from its heydays, I could easily have seen Texas going that route. But the Rust Belt isn't showing signs of improving anytime soon.

Further watering down the Big XII and adding a couple more mouths to feed is not at all attractive to folks in Austin. It has been tough to digest the TCU & WVU additions in spite of their football successes this fall. There are takers and there are givers. Sadly there aren't any giver options left for the Big XII to choose.

All of the schools share the blame, but DeLoss Dodds and Texas screwed the conference when they failed to add Louisville in addition to West Virginia. Jurich flew to Texas and begged for Louisville's admission to the Big XII, but he was denied by Dodds (http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketb ... tom-jurich). Once Dodds rejected Jurich, Louisville's chances in the Big XII were almost none.

Anyone with a brain knew that the pickings for the Big XII would be slim after Louisville if they didn't act quickly. The Big XII schools were told repeatedly to add Louisville and had multiple opportunities to do so, but they refused because they were greedy and arrogant.

This sums it up nicely:
Berry Tramel wrote:The Big 12 got fat and sassy when the networks ponied up for a refined 10-team format. Big 12 schools cashed big checks and thought it could slogan its way to national prominence. Instead, the “One True Champion” campaign became an albatross when it became likely that Baylor and TCU would tie for the league title, and the lack of a title game, which in other leagues produces a true champ, made the Big 12 the odd league out in this first season of musical chairs.
