It's just a ridiculous decision. You absolutely don't chase points unless it's late in a close game or you're way behind and need to get as many points as possible on each score.

To you're other point, it IS the first half so if you don't make it you can adjust.

Just a really bad call that probably won't hurt us, as we're going to dominate the 2nd half for the 3rd straight week, but could put us in a bad spot for no reason at all.
