I believe that if we had NOT signed a large group of at least somewhat promising recruits in November, we would and should be looking closely at cutting Layer loose. It sounds like I am saying the same thing here, but IMHO there is a difference. With 6 seniors leaving, getting a solid class signed early was imperative. To not have done so, regardless of how you may rate the quality of the players we signed, would have been a major failure to add to the on court failures of what has been a hugely disappointing season.
I hate it that those seniors, who should have been our strength this year, look like they are the source of a lot of our problems. Burrus, Sanders and Marshall have "trust issues" and Coronado, JVP and Roberts are now mostly riding the pine. I tend to agree with Purple that even if the recruits aren't world-beaters we may be better next year based on addition by subtraction.
Ultimately, I think Layer will be our coach next year based on JB's appreciation for how he runs the program overall and for him as a person and the fact that he is under contract for at least 2 more years (and according to some reports up to 4). I think having this class signed can be a factor simply because they are there, regardless of how talented they may or may not be.
