Your question was about the obsession about recruiting Virginia. Obviously if there is a superior player from Kansas you go for that. But there has been a handful of players within an hour radius that would have been interested in playing at LU if LU had been interested in them. They are now playing at other D1 institutions.
Thats pure speculation if they were going to be interested if we offered..what players are you talking about..Rowsey..who else. Marshall Wood was not coming to LU

There were a couple of LCS kids that would have come if LU showed ANY interest

I understand and appreciate the value of keeping a head coach, despite one or two bad seasons, but this is ridiculous. We need someone who not only values Liberty and our morals, but we need someone who is concerned with winning and recruiting local talent. There are so many good teams in this state, that there is no excuse for getting abused on our home court by some "middle of the pack" Big South team.
You don't fire a coach this close to the end of the season. He will be fired, but it won't be before the season is over.
What he said. It's just stupid to fire someone at this point. What little you might be able to gain won't be worth it. So long as Layer has done his job in a proper manner, he should be given the chance to resign at the end of the season if they want to fire him.

I'm not sure how good the class is going to be. Plus lots of LU fans have a proclivity for over estimating how good a recruiting class can be.
What needs to be taken into consideration is all the other things coaching at LU entails. There are expectations that other coaches don't have and other coaches have been let go for failing to meet. If DL is retained, and I think he will be, it because he fulfills those things very well.

this is prob one of our best recruiting classes since the Curry class but is that really saying much?? I think this class will be good compared to the other ones but I dont think it will come close to the Larry Blair David Dees class...

I'm on record saying Layer will be back. Even if this is an average recruiting class I think LU fans will be pleasantly surprised by next seasons results. I know it sounds crazy (so call me maybe) but I'm buying in more and more into the 'addition by subtraction' line of thinking

I believe that if we had NOT signed a large group of at least somewhat promising recruits in November, we would and should be looking closely at cutting Layer loose. It sounds like I am saying the same thing here, but IMHO there is a difference. With 6 seniors leaving, getting a solid class signed early was imperative. To not have done so, regardless of how you may rate the quality of the players we signed, would have been a major failure to add to the on court failures of what has been a hugely disappointing season.

I hate it that those seniors, who should have been our strength this year, look like they are the source of a lot of our problems. Burrus, Sanders and Marshall have "trust issues" and Coronado, JVP and Roberts are now mostly riding the pine. I tend to agree with Purple that even if the recruits aren't world-beaters we may be better next year based on addition by subtraction.

Ultimately, I think Layer will be our coach next year based on JB's appreciation for how he runs the program overall and for him as a person and the fact that he is under contract for at least 2 more years (and according to some reports up to 4). I think having this class signed can be a factor simply because they are there, regardless of how talented they may or may not be.
