True story, happened in 1971 when I attended BJU. Being from the south I heard the same thing that was just posted about us Southerns.
In my dorm room was 5 of us, one from Toronto Canada, sophomore, the other 4 were freshmen, one from PA, one from Alabama, Georgia and me from Florida.
I noticed right away there were no black students on campus, never saw one the whole year and I asked why. Was told BJU would not admit single black students, only married one, never saw again any black students. I thought black churches would need black pastors, trained to get the gospel out.
So I asked my dorm roommates should black students be admitted to BJU to get a quality education and go out and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We took a vote, 3-2 voted to allow black students.
The 3 votes for admittance were from the freshmen from Al, Ga and Fl. The two against were from the Canadian and the freshman from PA.
BTW when I transferred to LBC the next year, I was happy to see black students attending.
