My fandom has nothing to do with wins & losses. I have been an Alabama (football) fan for over 30 years... Since I was a little boy. I don't plan to stop. I'm pretty fair weather about any other sport.

I am also a fan of a number of other teams in various sports. Most of those are "home teams" of some sort or another.

I am a strong fan of Liberty University. Part of my love for Liberty is the vision that Doc stated over and over. That vision included using sports to reach people. That's great. I share that vision and look forward to seeing the grand vision actualized.

I do consider myself a "flames fan," but I will always prefer Alabama in my favorite sport: college football. In any other sport, I'd cheer for LU. I can't imagine Liberty playing at an SEC caliber level. I can't imagine Liberty beating BAMA, except in an APP State / Michigan scenario... Which would mean that BAMA would be in lean years. I've seen plenty of those days, and I expect to see them again. And I will remain a BAMA fan through and through.

There are a number of forum members who seem to have a greater love for Flames Athletics than for the University and it's mission. That's OK, but that's not me. I have nothing to be ashamed of in my love for my Alma Mater. But that's not going to stop me from being a BAMA fan. It's also not going to stop me from holding up a standard for what I think a great football team should look and act like. And yes, I cheer for Florida & Texas kids who choose to walk the Capstone. I even cheer for the smart kids who choose to leave "Big Ten" country to play in Dixie. Roll Tide Roll.

Further clarification. VA is a big college sports state. Illinois for example not. A lot does depend on where you grow up. So.....you know....grow up (not you BYD)

illinois is more a pro sport state than college but that doesn't mean college isnt important. uofi, nwstern, niu,so il all have tremendous followings.

regarding his number 1 point, it doesn't matter if he liked sports or not. the point rings true. its completely obvious that a person with little interest college athletics growing up would gravitate to the college he attended. especially if you include the fact that his parents never went. that may make it even more special which is totally once again understandable. but a unique perspective. most sports fans have a college they've grown up rooting for for one reason or another and if they happen to attend a fairly irrelevant school in the scope of national recognition, their allegiance will usually be split. especially if the school attended continues in its irrelevance.

You forgot the HUGE Notre Dame presence in Chicagoland. But given a choice between the Bulls or Illini most would chose Da Bulls

You should cook more or learn to cook to help out your wife.

I respect your opinion, but I do not like it. Liberty will always be first in my book even though I was born in a UNC household. My dad graduated from UNC and I am happy that all of the money that he has supported my family with came from the job that he has from the degrees he earned there.

I do cook, and as often as my wife wants me too (3-5 a week), but not meat.

Good for you. If I was born into a UNC household, I'd find another team too. :football: Perhaps I would be a Play Basketball fan instead. That would be truly sad.

You won't find a stronger supporter of the university than me... but that has nothing to do with being a fan of its athletic programs. FWIW - I AM a fan of Liberty athletic teams. My love for the Crimson Tide in football, however, is unlikely to be superseded by the Flames.

Yes Bama football is better than UNC football, but UNC basketball is 100 times better than Bama basketball.

I hope that it is superseded by Liberty, but Bama has over an 100 year head start.

Yes Alabama does have a basketball team and I am so proud of their national championship win over Duke. UNC basketball is 100 times better than Alabama basketball even with that national championship.

I'm with Adam...when? I know Arkansas won a couple and Kentucky's won some and Florida had its 15 minutes of fame...other than that, the SEC isn't exactly known for basketball.

All those A schools from the SEC are confusing.

Once again, it sounds like some LU folks treat some schools like pro franchises. Which is appropriate considering how some SEC schools operate.

There are many reasons why Texas has refused to join league with the SEC bunch. But that is fodder for other threads.

Texas is a very distant second team for me. And I still have ties to that program in Austin.

In order for Texas to refuse to join the SEC, don't they have to be invited? Doesn't the SEC have to be interested in the first place? Otherwise, its like me saying I refuse to date this hot chick even if this hot chick couldn't care less about me.

Dude, UT and Notre Dame have been invited by everyone. A&M finally decided they didn't care about their relationship with UT and decided to finally accept the SEC's offer. Do you honestly believe the SEC would choose Missouri over Texas?

But we are getting hopelessly off topic.
