A couple of thoughts

Dropping to 3rd string could have been a motivational strategy, not necessarily a reflection of actual talent. Though, if so, kind of a backfire.

Not everybody at UVA is prelaw or premed. He was most likely taking cake classes like all the rest of the athletes. So no guarantee he could hack it in the classroom here either.........

.... unless he gets into the sports management program.

UVA doesn't do that. They, much like schools like ND, Duke, etc., don't allow students to skate through college with some meaningless degree where they don't even have to go to classes.

We would be crazy not to take him! Even if he doesn't start the season we should Play him for the Richmond U Game...then Inform ESPN and get it on air. "First time in history 2 QB's fighting all season to start on the same team, compete against one another on opposite completely new teams"

You know it would bring massive attention, most of VA and half the fans in the ACC would probably tune in!?!?

But with them barely holding 9K in their stadium you know we are going to get shorted on tickets as we would/could probably bring more fans than them even though its their home game.

Plus now they would both be on a more even playing field(1aa Vs. 1aa instead of UVA vs. LU), Guarantee Mike London would Tivo it....

Hahaha And we play at the new Redskins Facilities Haha...Or just tell them we want to make it a home game at LU since the massive ticket problem that would occur at that small stadium.

no sour grapes at all sly. in fact, i was more of a rocco guy than a sims guy. clearly the platooning was no a good idea. i think it hurt them both. indeed sims numbers were decent and could have been better just like rocco's. certainly he could find his niche here at LU, but i just question the work ethic. i think the platooning was because london was scared that if sims did not play that it would hurt the progress he made in the 757. Also every stinking coach in the 757 from mike smith, tommy reamon, and now this guy at oscar smith and his name eludes me seems to protect their studs and when things do not work out at a particular school, they immediately say it was handled wrong. of course we do not know the ins and outs, but sims was given that waiver which was very iffy and UVA worked hard for that and he was given every chance to succeed and he failed. If he chooses LU could it be different? sure. he is clearly a talented kid. i trust nick saban's talent evaluation, but again his work ethic concerns me.
The Oscar Smith coach is Richard Morgan. I have connections to the school and the athletics program. Smooth is right in his assumption about the pressure a college coach will feel if it is deemed by a high school coach that a recruit was not treated fairly. This situation played out in 2004-05 when Tech heavily recruited Greg Boone, who was the starting QB for Oscar Smith. The recruiters from Tech supposedly told Morgan they were bringing Boone in as a QB. After RS'ing Boone they moved him to Tight End. Long story short, Morgan wasn't very happy about it and it was quite some time before a high profile player at Oscar Smith went to Tech. In fact, I believe J.C. Coleman, a 2012 signee was the first player to go to VT since Boone. For one of the most successful high school football programs in the state of VA, 7 years is a long time for VT to not have a signee.

That's what I thought as well. Thus the reason in another thread I wandered if MR could go back to UVA

Also, the ESPN comment went over some people's heads. :D

Welp that creates some what of a dilemma doesn't it!! But on the other hand creates more time to publicize the match up for the much more spacious home game against RU (don't we get them in Lynchburg for 2014?)

All 6 people that watch FCS football on TV wouldn't be enough for ESPN to care. Then there's the part where Rocco can't play this year.

Lets get the story straight. Boone tore up his knee and ballooned to to 285lbs. That is why he didn't win the qb job ( he was still put in the competition) and was moved to TE.

Morgan is in cahootz with London. That is the deal there, but as more and more players are promised the world at UVA and then find out that it is all fools gold, they will keep transferring.

Dakota -

Just so we're clear, I wasn't making the case for how VT screwed over Boone. I was merely agreeing with Smooth's comments that college coaches have to be weary of how they are perceived by high coaches in the treatment of past recruits. And I did that by providing the perception of Coach Morgan in regards to Greg Boone and VT. Whether that perception was accurate or not, doesn't matter to me or to the situation, as it is still an issue that can hurt the recruiting process from high school to college.

Don't take Sims. I've heard from a good source that during the season he attended parties and sat in the corner getting drunk and smoking. It that is what it takes to be big time, no thanks.
