Look on the bright side guys! If we only had one more player we probably would have only lost by 10...

Their school has been around a lot longer than we have, so they have a more established tradition. they had Stonewall Jackson. Plus, our guys were playing for second place and that's a lot of pressure. But in the end we were only 8-12 possessions from pulling this out.
Plus they have a better baseball stadium. :)

I was hoping that we could make some progress the last half of the season. Overall, it has been a horrible year with a very few and very brief bright spots. Need to blow this thing up.

Worst loss of the year IMHO. Final home game against a team that had lost 6 in a row and we were really never in it. This may have been the straw that broke the camel´s back for the ¨Layer era¨.

Gave up 13 3 pointers, a bunch of dunks, and only fouled 12 times the entire game. Were they even trying to prevent VMI from putting the ball in the basket?

By far the worst performance of the season. On the bright side, maybe when film is broken down, LU can see what it takes to be a good team. Be athletic, shoot 3s, get a few dunks, rebound on both ends of court.

VMI was knocking down 3s, and LU was dribbling around trying to drive to basket. Sanders needs to pass more and dribble less. Marshall was a non-factor. Our big men were non factors most of game. Speaks and Sanders combined for 39 points, but. Rest of team never showed up.

I heard a fan 2 rows behind me say, "we don't have a D1 player on the court"

The attendance was terrible. My first LU game about 10 years ago was a VMI game. Vines Center was packed. What has happened ? Normally VMI is a good draw.

You may be onto to something there. Very few students there last night. The adults and ole timers were there, but not all of them showed up.

Other than JVP, our bench was NONEXISTANT. Gielo and Roberts have both responded terribly to being taken out of the starting lineup. These 2, along with Donley, are supposed to be the players who give us some scoring off the bench. Between the 3 of them last night they played 40 minutes.............. that´s an ENTIRE GAME and scored 1 point.

Can we PLEASE stop blaming John Caleb Sanders for this team´s problems? He is leading us in scoring and assists and has a better assist to turnover ratio in BSC play than his brother had as a Junior when he was POY.

That's sorta the point. When he dominates the ball, we don't fair very well.

Do you actually think we would be a better team if JC just passed the ball around the perimeter like everyone else has been doing? He is the only player we have right now who looks like he has any confidence in his ability to challenge the other team and score, and guess what, he is doing just that, shooting a decent percentage for a 6 foot guard, getting to the line and making his free throws, and, did I mention, leading the team in assists with an assist/turnover ratio of almost 2/1 in conference play?

I agree. JC has proven to be a much better player than I gave him credit for early on, though I think he has improved as the season has worn on. Of course the genes don't hurt.

I thought Sanders and Marshall should have tried to match VMI's 3 pointers

If one team scores on 3s and other team scores on 2s, who is gonna win ?

The one who scores the most points. I´m probably one of the bigger advocates of the 3 point shot on this board (supported McKay when a lot of guys were ripping him for relying too much on the 3) but to suggest that when you have an opponent who is hot from 3 the only way to win is to jack up a bunch of 3s yourself is simply inaccurate. We shot 19 3s and only made 4. Marshall was shooting airballs out there. Our problem last night was mostly defense. Too many open 3s and too many clear paths to the basket for dunks.

I think we would be a better team if JC wasn't the focal point of our offense. He is an ok player, he does seem to work hard, seems to be a good kid, and is a pretty good shooter. As for a PG? He drives me nuts. 2/1 assist ratio IN Conference is pretty pedestrian. Granted, A/TO ratio isn't the best way to judge a PG. Hes a nice complementary player.

JC's strength is his 3 point shooting, same with Marshall. When other team has more talent, the 3 pointer can be an equalizer. LU needs to run an offense where they post a big man at FT line and down low, get him the ball, then throw it back out to Sanders/Marshall and fire away from behind the arc.

I'm not sure we have the personnel to run a high low. But I agree, JC as a shooter makes good sense
