The original Chicago-style still popular in some parts of Chicago is crispy thin crust including the always strong Aurelios and
Traverso's. But it is the deep dish that has become synonymous with Chicago-style. Everyone has their own favorites but you can never go wrong with
Lou Malnatis,
Giordanos (which now has Central Florida locations),
Ginos East and an endless number of neighborhood pizza joints. And while the original Pizzeria Uno is given credit for creating the deep dish phenomenon, it is probably the last place I'd go today in Chicago for a strong pie. I've also mentioned on here before that I had double-decker pizza in the Northern suburbs a few yars back that was one of the best pies of my life. But I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.
For the record, my kids are huge fans of the Mellow Mushroom. But it is as much for the awesome pretzels and ambience as it is for their pies.
In all my trips to Lynchburg I have yet to try Waterstone.
