poor adam silver....stern has a year and a half to churn up a bunch of crap, tick off those in the industry he hates, then dump it at the feet of his predecessor.

I wonder what would happen if they just didn't pay it?

Eh... the NBA will draw it from San Antonio's bond, then consider the Spurs to be bond deficient until they resolve the dispute.

He didn't need the ball in his hands to be effective, and was an above-average defender. Having to start Kidd at the two is going to come back and haunt them.

Kurt Thomas probably won't make the roster, and I'd be surprised if Wallace lasted half a season. Camby still has some game left and playing 15-20 minutes a night will be perfect for him.
Landry Fields production will be easily replaced. They have Ronnie Brewer - a much better defender than Fields - JR Smith, and Iman Shumpert.
J.R. Smith is so hot or cold, and his defense has always been non-existent. Iman is paper thin and couldn't find the basket with a GPS. I would be surprised to see Brewer make it to the regular season on the roster.

Fields held tremendous value for the Knicks. He was the perfect compliment to what they had, and now, being the oldest team in the league, are going to struggle big time. Lucky for them, Orlando is going back to the cellar, the Bulls will be average until Rose comes back, and the Celtics will be hard pressed to repeat the same success they had last year as another year older. Other than Miami, the East is wide open.
Fields this year: Only 5 games, 1.37 PER, 5-24 (20.8%), 0-3 from three, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, 1.2 fouls, 1.0 turnovers, 2.4 points

Fields last year: 66 games and 62 starts, 12.07 PER, 236-513 (46%), 31-121 (25.6%) from three, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.5 fouls, 1.5 turnovers, 8.8 points

Brewer this year: Started 16 games, 15.08 PER, 44-97 (45.4%), 10-23 (42.5%) from three, 3.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.1 fouls, 0.3 turnovers, 7.1 fouls.

Told you folks Fields production would be easily replaced, and Brewer is replacing it all on his own...

James Harden's 2013 season thus far is a mighty good impression of Kevin Martin's first year in Houston. And Martin's first year in Houston was a fairly down year for his standards

Harden's 2013 per 48s:
8.7-21.3 (41%) FGs
2.3-6.9 (33) 3s
9.5-11.4 (83%) FTs
5.5 rebounds
6.7 assists
2.0 steals
2.8 fouls
5.0 turnovers
29.2 points

Kevin Martin's 2011 per 48s:
10.2-23.4 (44%) FGs
3.2-8.5 (38%) 3s
11.0-12.3 (89%) FTs
4.8 rebounds
3.7 assists
1.5 steals
2.9 fouls
3.4 turnovers
34.6 points

And Kevin Martin is filling in quite admirably in the James Harden role for OKC this year, averaging the same amount of points per 48 while playing nearly an identical true shooting percentage and usage rate. And OKC isn't any worse off defensively this year, actually better. Has a defensive efficiency of 99.5 this year compared to a 100.0 last year. Wonder if Martin gets a max contract this offseason??

If you ever get a chance to watch a Portland Trailblazers game, do it. Damian Lillard is a straight up cold blooded killer! Dude is a special, special rookie.

James Harden just set the Rockets record for consecutive games with 25+ points, passing Moses Malone. Harden is 7th in PER this season. He's a max contract player.

this is the first year he has justified it. Houston got lucky because most of the time when teams take risks like they did with Harden and overpay him they get burned. In this case they didn't and he has proven he deserves it, but lets not pretend anything he did with OKC justified a max deal.

Lakers just shot 50 free throws, Warriors 16. David Stern, don't tell me that some games aren't fixed by the refs. Games like this make me hate the NBA.

One particular play in the Lakers/Warriors game stuck out as proving that the refs were doing everything they could to ensure a Lakers victory. Steph Curry was called for a foul against Steve Blake. On the play where that call was made, Curry tried to follow Blake on a cut and was knocked down by Dwight Howard on an obvious moving pick. No contact with Blake was ever made. WWENBA doesn't need to exist, but David Stern seems intent on destroying what he built before he steps away from it.

The only thing worse than the NBA, is David Stern. Any basketball purist would be ashamed of what this league has become.

He did help save the sport and league in the 80's and 90's.

Perhaps he was given more credit than he truly deserved back in the day. There is no denying the decline since Jordan's second retirement. The same applies for the NHL post-Gretzky & Lemieux. Transcendant talents can make a lot of executives look brilliant.

Basketball is not Hockey. You don't see kids in the park playing pick up hockey. He came along at the right time to exploit the talent on the court. He did a great job promoting Teams and Superstars. Now it is Superstars. The Celtics The Lakers The Pistons The Sixers Supersonics Trailblazers etc. you knew the players on those teams. Now you just know the players. And he made the game truly global. Drazen Petrovic, Vlade Divac, Toni Kukoc, Arvidas Sabonis, Sarunas Marcelonus ( he of Greatful Dead fame)
IMO, the NBA jumped the Shark when Jordan came back with the Wizards. Stern needs to pass the baton.

The reason why the league went international during his time in the '80s is because the Iron Curtain fell. It wasn't his brilliance as a commissioner. And my point about hockey was that it matched the NBA's growth curve based primarily on the buzz created by a couple of superstars.

late 90's/early 2000's was when the NBA was at its worse but overall it has improved. The problem with NBA ref's dates back to Jordan's prime...so lets not pretend this is a 'post MJ' problem.

Overall I enjoy the nba. There are things I don't like. The same goes for college basketball.

Yes but he was able to capitalize, pun intended, on it. Before he took over the NBA was seen as a game played by a bunch of drug addicts and thugs and their Championship games were on tape delay. They had super stars that they could have exploited for marketing but until Stern they failed to do so.
