He probably wasn't worth the deal that the Raptors gave him, but he was a good fit for New York. He didn't need the ball in his hands to be effective, and was an above-average defender. Having to start Kidd at the two is going to come back and haunt them.
Kurt Thomas probably won't make the roster, and I'd be surprised if Wallace lasted half a season. Camby still has some game left and playing 15-20 minutes a night will be perfect for him.
Landry Fields production will be easily replaced. They have Ronnie Brewer - a much better defender than Fields - JR Smith, and Iman Shumpert.
J.R. Smith is so hot or cold, and his defense has always been non-existent. Iman is paper thin and couldn't find the basket with a GPS. I would be surprised to see Brewer make it to the regular season on the roster.
Fields held tremendous value for the Knicks. He was the perfect compliment to what they had, and now, being the oldest team in the league, are going to struggle big time. Lucky for them, Orlando is going back to the cellar, the Bulls will be average until Rose comes back, and the Celtics will be hard pressed to repeat the same success they had last year as another year older. Other than Miami, the East is wide open.
Fields this year: Only 5 games, 1.37 PER, 5-24 (20.8%), 0-3 from three, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, 1.2 fouls, 1.0 turnovers, 2.4 points
Fields last year: 66 games and 62 starts, 12.07 PER, 236-513 (46%), 31-121 (25.6%) from three, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.5 fouls, 1.5 turnovers, 8.8 points
Brewer this year: Started 16 games, 15.08 PER, 44-97 (45.4%), 10-23 (42.5%) from three, 3.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.1 fouls, 0.3 turnovers, 7.1 fouls.
Told you folks Fields production would be easily replaced, and Brewer is replacing it all on his own...
