Apparently the BIG has offered UNC and UVA, but I truly don't see North Carolina leaving the ACC unless it's for the SEC. The ACC comish is a former Tarheel, enough said.

SumItUp, I think everyone here can agree that the Big East is already Tier 2. With the new format of the BCS they have been removed from being alongside of the Big 5. (SEC/B1G/Big12/Pac12/ACC) Other than that I agree with you. With so many followers of Liberty from the NY/OH/PA areas many people would prefer to join the MAC, but personally I would prefer the Sun Belt. Looking at the previous 2 seasons, and with the passion for football down south it has pretty good advantages over the MAC. All is speculation and opinion though.

@bluedevilflame,

I do not think Duke would be a bad decision. I think Cutcliffe is doing a great job with the football team. What I meant was this... I can not see the B1G taking Duke without taking UNC. However, I seriously doubt they want two teams from the same state when they are trying to add tv markets for their network. With that being said, outside of Georgia Tech, I doubt if anyone leaves... Now if FSU and Clemson leaves for the Big XII... :|

I hope Liberty is doing something similar to what Cincy is doing (in regards to hyping Liberty as a budding "national" brand with a strong evangelical following)...
Cincinnati pushing to join ACC

In making its case to the ACC, Cincinnati used a combination of athletic and academic qualifications, including how well its football and men's basketball teams have done as well as the size of its endowment and place in national rankings of top universities. Among the points Cincinnati made:

" The Bearcats were one of only six teams to finish in the top 25 of the final USA Today football and men's basketball polls (joining Michigan, Michigan State, Florida State, Baylor and Wisconsin).

" Ohio is a new and fertile recruiting ground and expands the geographic footprint of the ACC. Ohio had the fifth-most NCAA Division I football signees in 2012.

" Cincinnati's endowment is more than $1 billion, which is 26th nationally and more than six members of the ACC, and twice the size of Maryland's.

" The school is tied for 34th among public research universities, according to the Center for Measuring University Performance. That's in line with several other ACC schools.

" Cincinnati has nine Fortune 500 companies in the area plus is the 35th-ranked TV market.

Cincnnati would be better off making their case on finances than anything else. Everyone knows athletic success has nothing to do with it. If that were the case Louisville would be would of the hot commodities in this realignment mess...

Selig said if C-USA expands, it likely will do so quickly. Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee State and Western Kentucky of the Sun Belt and New Mexico State and Idaho of the Western Athletic Conference were considered for expansion last spring. FCS members Appalachian State and Liberty have expressed interest in joining C-USA.

The ACC big 4 (UNC, Duke, WF, and NC State) won't break up thus keeping the ACC alive despite whoever is placed around them. There has been a lot of wacky stuff in conference realignment but I would be beyond stunned if these 4 split, they are all 4 so wrapped into one another academically, athletically, and in the community it'd be tough for them to split up after nearly 100 years of being together.
This. The financial outrage from alumni/donors/boosters would probably be pretty high. Growing up in Greensboro, the Carolina-Duke game and ACC Tourney are hallowed events, to the point where during class in high school, most teachers would have the games on TV while they *attempted* to teach. There's really nothing bigger sports-wise in NC than the big 4 and ACC.

Oh and logic, yeah NC has a high unemployment rate, but there's a lot more than unions/right-to-work that influences the NC economy. 8 years of sleazy Easley and 4 years of Bev in the Governor's mansion are enough to tank any state economically.

Geographically speaking, we would make a nice travel partner for ODU, Charlotte, and Marshall. Comparing C-USA's footprint with the MAC and the Sun Belt, we would fit best in C-USA. I don't think the C-USA presidents would accept us, unless travel costs become the major factor in their decisions.

If UNC goes to the B1G it would be a problem for the Haize house. The annual Bloomington/Chapel Hill match up would be epic and end with me on the sofa. Tonite is bad enough!

It'd be anarchy in North Carolina if any of these 4 split from one another. The dynamic between these 4 is so much different than anyone else in the country which is why I think it would be far fetched to think any of them would leave the ACC. I remember those ACC tournament games in school, they might as well declare those tournament days a state wide holiday because nothing gets accomplished anywhere when any of the boys are in action!

Oh yeah, the rivalry of Wake-NC State far exceed Texas-Texas A&M, Missouri-Kansas, Nebraska-Oklahoma so realignment could never occur. Wait, what?

As an outsider, I could see NC State following the path of A&M as a little brother who feels he needs to move to get a fair chance to ever compete with big brother.

It's something that if you weren't from NC you wouldn't get it, these schools are attached at the hip and have been for close to 100 years now, ever since the SoCon days. Difference between NC and Texas is that NC's legislature would get involved if NC State and UNC tried to separate, Duke and Wake can obviously do as they please, but they will stick with the group.

I'm hearing that as well from Dan Wetzel on Twitter. He says presidents will be voting on it tomorrow. Wonder how long the ACC will last though. Going there is better than sticking in Conference USA 2.0 though.

Andy Katz just mentioned the special relationship between UNC and WF, Duke and NC State, they won't leave each other. I would be very happy with Louisville, glad Uconn talk is dieing.

Even if FSU and Clemson were to leave, Cincinnati and UConn would be next. It wouldn't be the best football conference but basketball would be the best in the country bar none. I don't see the ACC dieing, if anything getting back to its roots.

WVU would make ACC football relevant. Plus, you could have the VT and PITT (?) rivalries again. We'd even bring our green headed step child along so everyone would be guaranteed a win!
