The ACC big 4 (UNC, Duke, WF, and NC State) won't break up thus keeping the ACC alive despite whoever is placed around them. There has been a lot of wacky stuff in conference realignment but I would be beyond stunned if these 4 split, they are all 4 so wrapped into one another academically, athletically, and in the community it'd be tough for them to split up after nearly 100 years of being together.
This. The financial outrage from alumni/donors/boosters would probably be pretty high. Growing up in Greensboro, the Carolina-Duke game and ACC Tourney are hallowed events, to the point where during class in high school, most teachers would have the games on TV while they *attempted* to teach. There's really nothing bigger sports-wise in NC than the big 4 and ACC.
Oh and logic, yeah NC has a high unemployment rate, but there's a lot more than unions/right-to-work that influences the NC economy. 8 years of sleazy Easley and 4 years of Bev in the Governor's mansion are enough to tank any state economically.
