I think they deserve it based on who's returning, but they are going to have to start playing defense if they expect to be #1 by the end of the season. They did just receive bad news yesterday that two of their more highly touted freshmen - Peter Jurkin (you can't make that up...) and Hanner Perea - are each suspended nine games for taking illegal benefits from an AAU coach/IU "booster".

Conversely, Louisville is the #2 and has their own issues, but they are the opposite of IU - defense is really good, offense is, ugly.

Who knows how good #3 Kentucky will be. The talent is there to be the best, but it takes more than talent to win it all. The other freshmen post player - Willie Cauley-Stein - has been a very pleasant surprise and Nerlens Noel's offensive post game has been developing quicker than expected.

Yeah not happy about the benefits scandal. At least they took care of it. That stuff won't fly with theIU faithful. It's what separates us from the barbarians. AKA UK fans ha

Big news for Maryland: Dez Wells won his appeal, is eligible to play this year. Jeff Goodman tweeted that Maryland just released the news. Good for him, he deserved to be eligible after Xavier prematurely and undeservedly expelled him.

You mean barbarian like Bob Knight assaulting players and students? Or do you mean like hiring a man previously convicted of cheating in Kelvin Sampson who was then convicted of doing even more of the exact same cheating while at IU?

I wouldn't be so hasty in judgement of Xavier, wildcats. Just because a prosecutor says there wasn't enough evidence to convict doesn't mean that the crime didn't occur and it doesn't mean that even if there wasn't a conviction that he wasn't acting beyond the boundaries of acceptable behavior by the school's religious standards. He may or may not be guilty of a crime, but even his version of events makes him far from innocent. If schools like Maryland want to take advantage of this type of kid, it is to be expected. just don't bag on a private, religious school for sticking to their convictions even though they knew they were sacrificing an amazing talent not being on their squad.

Maryland is going to win a lot of games this year once they get better decision making on shot selection and getting the ball to Len consistently. Impressive hustle and hardwork tonight and that Alex Len kid has improved tremendously since last year when Maryland basically ignored him every game.

In quite possibly the biggest NCAA Hoops news of the day...
Shabazz Muhammad ruled ineligible for amateurism rules violation, UCLA plans to appeal

UCLA student-athlete Shabazz Muhammad is not eligible to compete in tonight’s game due to violations of NCAA amateurism rules. In addition to other pending issues, Muhammad accepted travel and lodging during three unofficial visits to two NCAA member schools.
So do the two schools in question get punished in any matter and what two schools are they? Schools are supposed to audit how a player finances his unofficial visits and report if anything is potentially illegal...

Apparently the two schools in question are UNC and Duke. So basically nothing will ever happen to te two schools who didn't properly audit the unofficial visits.

"In addition to other pending issues," the NCAA noted, "Muhammad accepted travel and lodging during three unofficial visits to two NCAA member schools."

Those trips were to Duke and North Carolina.

Remember when everyone said Curry was going to be mediocre and practically a nobody at Duke riding the bench behind some stud Coach K brings in? I'll even use the vaunted L-O-L word to describe that: LOL

Shulmen mentioned this last night - so don't know how accurate it is but if Seth continues his current scoring pace, he and Stephan will be the highest scoring brother combination in NCAA history.

I have made a point of not letting that die on this board.

He's going to have to beat his injury long-term, though. It's talked about some here: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketba ... lue-devils
