It wasn't even really about slavery until Lincoln brought in the Emancipation Proclamation... he did it just so England and France wouldn't help out the south. Technically, the war was about states rights.

Actually, whmatthews is correct on the war. Started out as states rights, but Lincoln, through the Emancipation Proclamation, freed the slaves in the south only in order to keep Great Britain and France out of the war. Lee had invaded the North, hoping to get a win to get European support. Lincoln was capitalizing on the win at Antietam.

On the other hand, eastern NC BBQ is way over-rated (too much vinegar). Memphis-style is where it's at.

AND thank you fumble! The South failed miserably, unfortunately. The Virginia First Policy made them fight a defensive war (Until Antietem, which they lost... should have been the turning point if they won) and King Cotton failed miserably.

I've never tried Memphis-style. My dad cooks eastern bbq as a side job. His grill is amazing... it has chrome pipes, the color scheme matches his 1960 Ford Truck and it has flames painted coming up from the bottom. I shall inherit it some day and keep the business alive.
