No, we'll be the ACC's 16th school!!!

In all seriousness, if the ACC wants 16 teams, I could see them going after Villanova or Georgetown. 14 football schools, 16 basketball schools.

Swafford is maintaining that they are staying at 15...UConn would be the 16th, with Georgetown being a close second.

ND will be the ONLY exception to the ACC being an "all sports" league. Football is stable with 14 (7/7 divisions). The ACC is anticipating ND will eventually join for football as well. When/if that happens, then a 16th member would be invited - likely UConn. If ND stays indy in football, then the ACC makes no more moves.

I'm hoping ND to the ACC triggers some movement in the BE that can open a door for LU to FBS. We'll see.

I definately think that ND will be an ACC football team sooner rather than later, ACC wouldn't have let them in without thinking that, I guarantee. This is great for the ACC, it boosts basketball and even though they aren't full members, having 5 football games a year will kind of give the conference ownership of the team as a 'member'. And the $50 million + exit fee now concretes teams to the league, the ACC is here to stay. As far as the Big East is concerned, they shouldn't panic, its not like ND was a football playing member.

I think that depends on what happens in the FBS playoff picture going forward. If it stays at 4 teams and conference championships play into the picture, then ND would join the ACC in football for sure. If the playoffs expand to 8 or 16, then the need for ND to join a football conference is diminished. In this case, they stay indy in football and renew their Notre Dame Broadcasting Channel contract. $$$$.

Actually, the rumor is NBC isn't going to renew that contract in 2 years, thus meaning football needs to make the move.

If true, then I'm with bluedevil... ND joins the ACC for football. I also think UConn would then be invited to even out football divisions.

I wish he did, but I can't see us going straight to the Big East. I can see them poaching CUSA, MAC, or Sun Belt (BYU or AF does nothing for us) and that having a trickle down affect on us but I can't see us jumping into the Big East at first....or can I

So is Jim Calhoun now the biggest victim in all this realignment madness? With him gone and the Big East falling apart, UConn is no longer a premier program. They now NEED to get out of the Big East to a stronger conference, and it's really hard for me to say that. But that's the only way they stay a consistently legit program.

I wonder how hard they are lobbying the ACC about now...

I live in Cincinnati and there's been lots of talk today about the Big East basketball schools breaking from the football schools. Xavier and Dayton would be in the picture for a basketball only conference with the non-football members. That would leave the Big East expanding yet again. Louisville and Cincinnati are in a world of hurt right now with no where to go. Louisville has such a poor acedemic standing the Big 10 and other conferences won't touch them. I'm hoping when all this shakes out an opening will be there for Liberty.

I think the Big East is going to look totally different within 5 years. I truly believe the Catholic schools will eventually split from the football schools. If this were to happen, I could see the football schools joining together with schools like 'Nova, Delaware, JMU, Charlotte, Old Dominion, and UMass under a new conference.

Villanova cannot support FBS football. If there was any possible way they would have already done it. Their name just won't go away when it comes to FBS football and I don't know why.
