Our nachos are sub-par right now, but I'll bring it up at the next Athletic Advisory Board meeting :D
They are better then ours!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a team have to have scholarships to be eligible for the playoffs. So I'm just speculating that adding a non-scholarship school to the football conference wouldn't count as an addition towards the AQ?

That's not correct. The Pioneer champ is eligible, just unlikely to be selected. In order to earn the bridge "auto" qualifier, a team from the Pioneer has to beat two non-conference teams from auto-bid leagues and finish in the top 16 of the GPI. Teams that don't meet that criteria may still be selected. They're eligible. It just doesn't happen. See Jacksonville and Dayton from 2010.

Kyle may allow Campbell to play in the Big South sans skollies, but I don't know what would be in it for Campbell. They would be resigning themselves to never playing for a conference championship because they would be on an uneven playing field. I don't think Campbell would go that route. Unless the Camels add skollies, they're not an option for the Big South.

Thanks Chris, does the Ivy League make a conscience decision not to go to the tourney? I find it hard to believe one of their squads wouldn't slip in from time to time.

I think Ivy League schools are invited as an at-large, but they just always abstain from playing.

Kallander is a genius. Study Okay, maybe I won't go that far, but they are at least positioned to have another Virginia team if and when LU bolts for a IA conference. And having an away game just an easy hour drive down 460 East is appealing to me as a fan.

Sure, Longwood doesn't have football, but neither does about half of the Big South schools. Geographically, adding Longwood makes a ton of sense for the conference. (And it helps our Quiz Bowl team to have another Virginia school close by for tournaments).

Any word on if their nachos are any good?
I'd be more excited if I were still a student. Away games only an hour away, plus having mom either cook or take me out to eat = win win for me.

However, it's a bit late now for that.
Just beware brother, the ride back down 460 can be pretty long since the Flames are 0-8 when they play in Willett Hall :P

We actually have won one game in Willett back in the 78-79 season in our NCCAA days but we are 8-17 Overall against the Lancers so we really have no room to talk smack. I feel like BEE-JAY in giving out stats!

Per league rule, the Ivies do not participate in any postseason football. But they do participate in the postseason in every other sport.

Thanks Chris, that's what I was thinking. Now that I think about it I remember their conflict with the playoffs and their exam season.

Do you know why that is the case? I'd never heard that before.

It's something the presidents voted on. Has a lot to do with academics and not having their athletes potentially tied up in up to five weeks of the postseason. There has been some clamoring among the Ivy coaches to change the rule, but the presidents are unwilling to bend at this point.

By adding Longwood, it waters down the Big South since they do not have football. the last thing the Big South needed was another non football school. LU needs to bolt the Big South at first avaiable opportunity. I hope the current study being done will speed up the exit process.

It will be interesting to see what Big South says Longwood brings to the conference, (if anything). By not having a football team, Longwood will weaken the conference. I cannot believe the other Big South schools voted to let them in. granted they need to be in some conference, but Big South isn't the right one.

Oh well for the suspense, the background for the press conference prior to loading is a Longwood Lancers logo

By letting Longwood in, Big South has demonstrated they have very low standards, or maybe no standards at all. If Longwood had football, I would say good move, but they do not. anytime a football conference lets in a non football school, they weaken the conference.

Explain to me who you think the Big South should have targeted to add to the football conference? To say Longwood adds nothing is ignorant to say the least. Do you have any idea how hard it is to be an Independent? What a struggle it is with scheduling, traveling, recruiting, etc? Longwood persevered and has a record of 564-552-27 (.505) in all sports since we turned D1 in 2007. Now we have more strategic opportunities to improve our programs even further.

If you don't agree with the BSC not adding a football school then say that, don't bring down Longwood though. We bring competitive programs to every, single sport we have, all of which can put up BSC championship banners right out of the gate.

Nothing against Longwood, I have stated that it's a good move for the Lancers, but it is bad for Big South because they do not have football.

As for "LU", that is gonna be interesting. Last year I attended a game at Longwood. They had soem organization giving away t shirts. They had "LU" screen printed on the front. I have yet to wear it. Actually I think I gave it away to a church clothing collection project.
