In putting a pretty positive growth forecast out for the Lynchburg Metro area Moody's had this to say about the growth drivers:
"Liberty University. One of the strongest drivers of employment and income growth throughout the forecast will be Liberty University. As a private insti-tution, the university has been able to avoid much of the budget crunch being experienced by many state schools throughout the country. Scheduled expan-sions are expected to bring on-campus enrollment to more than 20,000 students by the end of the decade, from the current 12,000. In addition to increased employment as faculty levels are brought in line with a larger student body, a number of ambitious construction projects are in the works. This year, the university put together a financing plan for more than $120 million in renovations and expansions to its aging campus. If such plans are executed efficiently, the university will likely surpass Centra Health as LYN’s largest employer within a few years. "

Other major driver mentioned was nuclear companies AREVA and B&W which are not as in danger as many thought after Japan earthquake reactor problems.
