WE JUST CAME IN 2ND LAST YEAR. If you can't hang your hat on regular season finishes, then I don't think you have any argument at all.

I'm not arguing with you there. I even have a coupon for free admittance. But why do I want to take an entire day to drive up there and back to watch this? Especially when I can listen to SCAR on TV.

What were the finishes after that? And how was the conference tourney record? And he was fired?

Stick to GW.

That was exactly my point, the supporters were all about regular season finishes. I guess now they discard it? And they explain it away with "we played harder" than the other teams. That's exactly what I want from a coach. And we're supposed to be upset with that?

In case any of you haven't noticed yet, I put the same things on this coaching staff that you guys did and currently do to Randy.

In other news. Go through 2005 Big South Players and see who is playing professionally. Go through 2011 Big South Players and see who's playing professionally. It was a legit conference. The Same conference that produced Winthrop teams that were beating high-majors in the tourny.

We can have this conversation all day. I know that we can because we have for the past 5 years. I hold a high standard for Liberty basketball because they request one, until they start losing then they don't want to be held to that standard.

How many of you will be at the Radford game tonight? I will. Yup. With 45 other people. Or the 470923059819843758914768912734 other people if thats what they decide to say attendance is tonight.

So what's our solution? Can Dale? Hire RD?

@LUCONN

You are supposed to be happy about that. Thats one of Dale's best qualities. However, what happens when playing hard doesn't work? Should you make a game plan? Run good offense? Define player roles? Noooooo.... Ive got a better Idea: Let's only have 1 coach recruiting, make excuses, talk about how great everyone else is, and recruit "studs" that all seem to flop. Thats better.

This isn't the ACC. Its the Big South. Feed the post. Play High-Low. Kick to open Shooters. Defend. You'll play in a real tournament.

I liked Coach Dunton I did. I got to know him a little personally and definitely thought highly of him in that regard. I liked that he got us to the NCAA Tournament. that said, I do think that Coach Layer, despite how this year has gone, ought to get at least one more year. If our record was where its at with John Brown and Sommy Ogukwe healthy and with Evan Gordon still on the team, then yeah I could see why youd want to get rid of Coach Layer and all that...but no one planned for those things to happen. I dont think Coach Layer was sitting in his office thinking, "gee, maybe I should have my second leading scorer from last year blow his knee out in practice and jeopardize his future career...and then have one of the few legitimate post players I have on the roster blow HIS knee out soon thereafter, leaving me with only two returning post players with significant experience and a couple underclassmen who have zero game experience...oh and then...have the guy who was my leading scorer last year, even though he had a bit of an attitude problem the last part of the season...transfer to another school...yeah...that's the ticket". Would we have done better the last 4 years with RD? We can speculate but dont know the answer with 100% certainty. Would Jesse Sanders have come here? Probably not (and he will as I may have said elsewhere go down as the best point guard in LU history)...but we dont know for sure.

Who would you want to coach us TBGBG even if we do fire coach Layer?

Nope. Stop Making Excuses. Get After It.

I saw Dale's Colorado State team. They were GOOD. They were BIG. They were STRONG. They played GOOD BASKETBALL.

Do that.

In none of this am I saying that Dale is a terrible coach. I still have faith for him. I point out things that are wrong, but thats what everyone does here. Let's not act like its a surprise. I want this team to be successful. To the point that I give up MY TIME to help them be successful. (And no I am not referring to the time I am putting in on FF right now haha)

1. Would I want to Coach? Absolutely.

2. Should we fire Dale? Absolutely not.

3. BJ, you are correct in that it wasn't planned, but don't make excuses. Find a way to get it done. VMI, COASTAL, UNCA, NO ONE is going to feel bad for you because of that. Get ready anyway. It sucks not having John Brown, but those other kids would have needed to give us SOME minutes of productivity anyway, and they haven't.

4. Evan leaving was not planned, but it was better for us. However, it also was not a huge surprise sprung on us in August. We knew that going into Summer. We knew with enough time to plan for that.

5. Would Jesse have come here? He's from Texas. Rell Porter was from Texas, Anthony Smith was from Texas, and Randy Dunton had been recruiting Jesse Sanders all the way in Texas.

You know we went to the tournament won BSC tournaments and put a couple of players on NBA rosters when Jeff Meyer was here. We had tremendous community support and great attendance too.

But I'm just pointing out that we have had astounding success in the Pre RD era. And it has it's own drama but JM proponents have moved on. Incidentally so has he.

I have seen most LU home games over the past 4 seasons, and right many in the 3 or 4 years B-4. I will attest that the LU program is in shambles. Injuries and defections have not helped the situation. our talent level seems to be a notch below that of a D1 Mid Major team. Sometimes we resemble a good high school team. We need a couple of shooters that can hit the 15-20 footer, in addition to the 3 pointer. Draining the shot clock trying to get ball inside isn't the best offense in today's world. As I posted earlier, Coach Layer is a good person, but I don't think he's the coach to lead LU basketball towards bigger and better things.
