hold on let me try,

lets say a good qb is like a boat investment. lets say that a good boat only runs 70% of the time and its rental ROI is like 10%. Phil sims is a boat barely floats gets bad gas mileage and says stupid things on tv.

first off i will give credit where credit is due. Tebow played a heckuva game. Credit also needs to be given to the broncos coaching staff. They toyed with a steelers secondary which is normally very dang good. The only beef i have with tebow fans is the "all he does is win" comments. He did lose three in a row right? When Tebow was ''doing it by himself", or when the broncos lost, his receivers were garbage and the coaches were a joke. Just make sure you spread the love around tebow fans. I really hope the broncos and beat the patriots, and HAIZE, im not hating on your boy! carry on!

cjsweat wrote:For the record, he played the best game of his career today. Yet, he still completed under 50%. When you play against Brady, Brees, Rodgers...etc, you have to complete much more than that. Look what happened to Tebow when he faced a legit QB. Detroit...45-10. New England...41-23 The difference isn't the defense. The difference is the QB. When you face good QB's, you have to be able to answer.

sweat, this is why i cringe sometimes when i read your posts. Big Ben is not legit?? riiight. he played on a bad ankle and nearly led the steelers to victory. Big Ben is a top 5 QB in the league behind the three you mentioned and payton manning. Stafford is proving to be legit, but is now starting to be consistent. the same could be said about Eli Manning.i am not making excuses but when has pittsburgh played that bad defensively ? the first game of the year. They were simply outcoached and outplayed. anyway i just had to add that.

Normally I love listening to the sports talk guys squirm on the radio trying to save face, but today it's actually making me angry. I heard Cris Carter this morning "give Tebow credit" by saying "I give Tebow credit" and then go on to give 100 reasons why the Broncos won other than Tebow. Including how the Steelers defense is always so great but what most people don't know is their secondary is actually a weak spot. What are you talking about? It's been weak in the past but this season has been phenomenal. And it's not just Carter, they're all doing it.

cc has been the worst though. him and keyshawn. they are the 2 reasons i enjoy the tebow success. i've said it all along, to watch those 2 guys' heads explode would be hilarious. i was listening this morning and laughing the entire way into work. STEELERS THIS STEELERS THAT hahahahah

Everyone brings up the injured Pittsburgh defense but fails to make any mention of the banged up Denver players. Brian Dawkins was a big time loss in the Denver secondary.

flamesfilmguy wrote:cj why are you stuck on this 50% thing? If he wins football games why does it matter that he doesnt complete 50%?

Because he is not winning football games. His defense and receivers are. He threw the TD pass about 15 yards and the receiver ran for 65 more. How did Tebow win that? The reason I look at completion percentage so much is because of this. As a QB, your team calls on you to spread defenses out and create long distance plays. That means that when Denver needed Tebow, he came through...47.6% of the time. If I was running a ship and my engine only worked 47.5% of the time, would I want to keep the engine long term?
You do realize Tebow threw several deep passes, right? And who threw that pass to Thomas in the perfect location so he can catch it in stride and run it in for the TD? Who is the one that ran in the ball for the Broncos third TD?

Also, good job ignoring this data: Denver has three of the players in the top 20 in the AFC for most dropped passes. Additionally, Tebow often purposefully throws away passes to avoid getting sacked or throwing an INT (He was 9th in the NFL in pass interception %), more so than the typical QB. But i suppose that is irrelevant and we all have to take completion % on the surface and not take it in context.

And Brian Dawkins is possibly the best safety of all time starting for the Broncos, 51 tackles with three sacks. Three sacks was the third most amongst safeties this year. Roman Harper had a ridiculous 7.5 while Chris Crocker had 3.5

60 safety's had more tackles than he did. no ints. we are talkign about effectiveness this year. brian dawkins is hardly a cornerstone of the denver defense outside of leadership.

and the steelers lost 2 of their starting dline early in the game. i don't care about the steelers, in fact i hate the steelers, but you can't throw out the fossil dawkins and claim that that is in any way comparable to what the steelers lost on defense.

as for drops,

there are 5 teams in the afc with 3 players dropping 5 or more passes. out of those 5, denver has dropped less. sure they pass 75% as much but who cares...those numbers are near irrelevant. wr's drop passes on all teams.

You can't really judge Tebow any based on his first season. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, the offense was not the least bit designed to make him successful.

Once again going in order of total passing yards - assume first season, second season, third season, etc. unless otherwise stated. These are all top 100 passers all-time as far as passing yards go.
  • John Elway: 47.5% in first season
  • Fran Tarkenton: 49.5% second season
  • Vinny Testaverde: 43, 47.6 in his first two years
  • Drew Bledsoe: 49.9% first year
  • Dan Fouts: 44.8, 48.5
  • Kerry Collins: 49.4, 48.2 in fourth year
  • Donovan McNabb: 49.1%
  • Jim Hart: Under 50% every season until his 7th season. He was the starting QB for STL for all but his rookie year and the last three years of his career, and they had six seasons of .500 or better football with him as starter
  • Steve DeBerg - 45.4
  • John Hadl - 41.2%, 43.8%, only 50.4% career.
  • Phil Simms - 50.6%, 48
  • John Brodie - five years of sub 50%. He was a career 49er, played 16 seasons as the starter nearly every year
  • Norm Snead - five years of sub 50%
  • Joe Ferguson - 44.55
  • Roman Gabriel - sub 50% in three of his first 4 years, 13 year starter for the Rams
  • Ron Jaworski - played sparingly his first three years at under 50%, first year as starter, under 50%
  • Terry Bradshaw - 5 of his first 7 seasons under 50%
  • Joe Namath - 3 of first 4 seasons under 50%
  • Eli Manning - 48.2%
  • George Blanda - sub 50% for career
  • Steve Grogan - 48% second season, only 50.7% first season, so under 50% combined first two years
  • Bobby Layne - sub 50% for career
  • Jim Plunkett - sub 50% 4 of first 5 years
  • Joe Theismann - sub 50% for three straight years once he started getting more than a small ahndful of pass attempts
  • Charley Johnson - 49.7% first year as starter
  • Steve Bartkowski - sub 50% first three years
  • Steve Beuerlein - sub 50% first three years
  • Babe Parilli - sub 50% for his career
  • Sammy Baugh - 47.4, 49.2
  • Jack Kemp - sub 50% for career
  • Jim Zorn - 47.4, 41.4

really? is it that he's on television that we think he was a good qb? he was mediocre but played along side one of the silliest defenses the nfl had ever seen.

and once again, completion %'s before the late 90's are generally low. we already went over this. what defenses are able to do to wr's back then is greatly different than what we see today. it has no bearing on what we are seeing today.

if you don't need him to score 30+ pts it can work with 50% passing. once your defense is hurt and bad. you have to pass more, 50% is bad. but with their defense he can do that and win.

trent dilfer won a superbowl with sub 50 comp % i'd bet.

Has was sub 50% in the Super Bowl (12-25) and in the second round (5-16). Overall playoffs he was 35-for-73, but he was 59.3% for the season...

But how about the TD catch by Cotchery near the end of regulation?

Seriously. Dude got hit dead in the chest with the ball barely in his hands and hung on.

Still amazed.

Keyshawn and Carter have NOTHING on Marshall Faulk when it comes to hating Tebow.

Passing 316 yds
Avg completion 31.6 yds
TV audience 3.16 million

The whole thing is that Tebow isn't the norm.

He is the exception to the rule of what factors are the "shoe-ins" for a successful QB in the NFL. I love it.

sorry haize...not a convert at all. He played a heckuva game and i gave him credit. I respect him and what he stands for, but it certainly does not make me a convert. I simply want the tebow fans to come around when he loses and quit blaming the coaches and other players when the broncos lose and the stop this utter stupidity that God cares about if the Denver Broncos win.
