The win at all costs mentality really stands out to me as the obvious thing we can take away from this situation. Winning football games was priority #1. The school's reputation was put on the line. How is LU any better than any other school that has felons representing it? Too bad it still wasn't enough to win the games that mattered. I, along with a lot of other people, lost a bit of respect for the school after the way this was handled.

I know you can say we need to wait and see what happens in January. I don't buy that. I'm all for due process and second chances (and third, fourth, fifth, etc.) as a student/human being, but the chance to represent the school is not part of that deal while felony drug charges are pending.

How about if the student/athlete participates with the program while I am AD you are fired! The University has to many stakeholders who should not be put to ashes over a win at cost mentality. BYU seems to have rebounded fairly well in basketball after suspending a player for morality violations.

It seems that the governing by committee is new around LU. Doc was the authority on everything.

Misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, the second charge of driving on a suspended license and the noise charge were dropped by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Kelly Osterbind. Osterbind said those charges will be presented along with the cocaine charge to the Jan. 3 grand jury for indictment so all his alleged offenses will be heard at the same time by a circuit court judge.

Mrs. Osterbind is an LU grad and LU Law grad. Her hubby went to LU Law and is a professor at the Law School. How do you think she feels about having to charge Chapman....Geeze. Or at least she dropped some charges because Chapman is an LU student. jk

but he lost the right to wear a LU uniform the moment he was charged until the outcome was decided by the court, not the chancellor, AD or coach.

I don't know if I fully agree, but he certainly did not receive appropriate consequences.

But with legal proceedings continuing, we'll have to wait for resolution for those answers. Whether we agree with the outcome or not, there was a clear process used to obtain the decision.

Those are the facts that we know and I don't believe that there is any unknown possibility that can reconcile those 2 facts.

This whole "there are circumstances you don't know about" is really going to blow up in their faces because it just isn't true. And if a lawyer can get him off the hook, that will never make this ok because it happened and we all know it did.

All right Dano! And what I'm saying is that just because there was a process to justify the action does not make it right.
I will say I was surprised to hear Lang state he received about a 50/50 split in letters regarding the incident. I would have thought a higher negative. I mean I know I've been called out for apparent lack of vision but boy I would hope we had a decision that was overwhelmingly approved of. Like say reinstating him to school ONLY.

I only had information in regard to the process through which Asa was re-instated. As for the latest legal developments, those are based on Asa and his defense counsel clearly not recognizing that the prior charges still needed to be addressed. That's inexcusable IMHO.
