The win at all costs mentality really stands out to me as the obvious thing we can take away from this situation. Winning football games was priority #1. The school's reputation was put on the line. How is LU any better than any other school that has felons representing it? Too bad it still wasn't enough to win the games that mattered. I, along with a lot of other people, lost a bit of respect for the school after the way this was handled.

I know you can say we need to wait and see what happens in January. I don't buy that. I'm all for due process and second chances (and third, fourth, fifth, etc.) as a student/human being, but the chance to represent the school is not part of that deal while felony drug charges are pending.

As I walked in to breakfast....business associates were there with Lynchburg News and Advance headlines, "Chapman charge certified". So DR gets his press conference at Richmond and we get our press coverage of the remains. Got to believe the AD signed off on the this.

Can anybody tell me that they know for a fact that deciding the fate of a football player falls under the jurisdiction of the Athletic Director? Because I honestly don't know one way or the other. Seems to me that we have a governing body that upholds Liberty's rules and regulations and corresponding consequences and it completely failed. Is anybody familiar enough with the Liberty Way to tell me the process?

Police reports are available from the city if anybody wants to pony up the $15 to see what kind of circumstances were present to pacify us. If there were actually any.

How about if the student/athlete participates with the program while I am AD you are fired! The University has to many stakeholders who should not be put to ashes over a win at cost mentality. BYU seems to have rebounded fairly well in basketball after suspending a player for morality violations.

It seems that the governing by committee is new around LU. Doc was the authority on everything.

Ri. Too true.

LU. To answer your query, don't rely on the Liberty Way as a huide. As we have seen it can change at the drop of a hat and/or be held secret. :D BUT at the end of the day the coach works for the AD. The AD should want to know what's going on and theoretically would be able to step in and say yes or no.

I prefer Angry Birds at the moment. Which, based on our mascot, is appropriate.

Mrs. Osterbind is an LU grad and LU Law grad. Her hubby went to LU Law and is a professor at the Law School. How do you think she feels about having to charge Chapman....Geeze. Or at least she dropped some charges because Chapman is an LU student. jk :D

I agree. That's the grace part.

I don't know if I fully agree, but he certainly did not receive appropriate consequences.

Guys, I have heard the facts from the Chancellor regarding the decision to reinstate Asa to the team. I understand why the school could not say more and I believe most of on the board will have a greater understanding of the Coach Rocco's decision when the facts are made public. But with legal proceedings continuing, we'll have to wait for resolution for those answers. Whether we agree with the outcome or not, there was a clear process used to obtain the decision.

SLY. A process doesn't justify. I could give examples but I'm sure you can think of some on your own.

Sounds like a lawyer.

1. He got caught with cocaine
2. He was still allowed to stay and play football for Liberty University

Those are the facts that we know and I don't believe that there is any unknown possibility that can reconcile those 2 facts.

This whole "there are circumstances you don't know about" is really going to blow up in their faces because it just isn't true. And if a lawyer can get him off the hook, that will never make this ok because it happened and we all know it did.

All right Dano! :D And what I'm saying is that just because there was a process to justify the action does not make it right.
I will say I was surprised to hear Lang state he received about a 50/50 split in letters regarding the incident. I would have thought a higher negative. I mean I know I've been called out for apparent lack of vision but boy I would hope we had a decision that was overwhelmingly approved of. Like say reinstating him to school ONLY.

I am not a lawyer, nor do I know anything more than you about this case. But it is my understanding that if there is cocaine in a car with a group of people, and no one admits initially to it belonging to them, the entire group could get charged with "possesion".

If that person has changed their mind and decided to claim the illegal drug as their own,...Asa passes a drug test.....

All this is speculative, but I just wanted to point out, there are situations.

Didn't he claim it was for weight loss purposes?

I only had information in regard to the process through which Asa was re-instated. As for the latest legal developments, those are based on Asa and his defense counsel clearly not recognizing that the prior charges still needed to be addressed. That's inexcusable IMHO.
