Lot's of QB coaching experience. 2 years as a recruiting coordinator at Cornell and 2 years of offensive coordinator duties at both U of Buffalo and UVA. QB coaching experience in a few NFL stops and he's worked on staffs with Dan Reeves, Joe Gibbs and Mike Holmgren.

Interesting hire if that's the case.

He turns 40 next summer. If he's the hire, that could well point towards the idea that he's being brought in as a long term coach who is expected to guide the transition to FBS and beyond.

Although you are correct, I believe that I said tired and not interested in looking at UVA's coaching staff. haha. After reading everyone's posts about him though, I think he'd be a nice hire.

So what if he's Catholic? As long as he fits with our mission we're good.

There are a few statements he makes that would be fundamental differences with our mission as a school. I will paraphrase one:
......................................................................................................................
He is talking about going to a Coach's Bible study in Washington; The pastor says something like , "everything we talk about is gonna be out of this Bible, it has 66 books in it," That made coach Lazor "uncomfortable".

So Lazor pulled one of the pastors aside and said there were "73 books in his Bible". He was asking if it was okay for him to participate in that Bible study because he used a different Bible.

......................................................................................................................

Doc's vision of Liberty being to Evangelical Christians what Notre Dame is to catholics, places a clear distinction there. I hope the administration considers this.

To avoid a theological battle here, there are good catholics, and there are bad ones. There are plenty of reasons why we have theological differences but you can tell at the end of the day the good ones have a relationship with Christ.

But you do have a good point.

i'm for this.

as for being catholic I don't care. There are a lot of people who would label themselves catholics on campus. More important, it should be about Jesus, which it looks like he's passionate about.

This is kind of scary from his bio: Lazor is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the NFL Coaches Association (NFLCA). The Scranton, Pa., native and his wife Nicole, have a son, Nolan, and a daughter, Marin.

lazor is a great offensive mind. I dont know if he's ready for a head coaching job but the offense would def. be top notch. I guess he can't do much worse than our current defense.

As usual UVA fans think they are much better than they are. They base that off Mackay who was a wuss and bailed after his stud (curry) left. I like Lazor more than just about anyone who has been mentioned so far, at least from a football standpoint, dont knwo enough about the rest of his resume.

If he brings the Nard Dog down with him I'll be on the bandwagon

I just want to see our head coach punch through the wall of his office out of anger. Does anybody know if Lazor was in an acapella singing group while at Cornell?
+1, I'd also like to place a trash can down on the sideline for him to kick over and yell, "i'm gonna lose my freaking mind."

I'm actually really starting to like the idea of bringing Lazor in. I do understand the question of him being dedicated to our mission. However, while I think we should stick to only hiring Christians, we can't get caught up into their denomination. We have calvinist, anglicans, methodist, baptist, and penticostal professors at our school. If we're letting those people teach at our school, I don't think we should be worried about whether our head football coach is a Catholic or Baptist. It's not like the guy is making administrative decisions or anything. Also, I happen to think that Catholics will be in heaven worshiping God with us.

I do think Lazor would be a great hire. There's several questions about our offense heading into next season and I think Lazor will help with that. My only worry is that he hasn't been a head coach before and that could mean some early growing pains. However, he definitely has the local name recognition to reel in top recruits and he obviously knows the quarterback position quite well.

He's been with the Redskins and UVA. Those are some big local brands. He was a record setting quarterback at Cornell and he's been a quarterback coach at several NFL teams. I think when you compare UVA's quarterback situation from last year to this year, there's a huge difference. I've obviously expressed my feelings on UVA here before, but I think Lazor would be a really good fit here.

Verica and Rocco's numbers are nearly identical. I think he could potentially be a good fit, but all we are doing is looking at a guys "resume" and not the product on the field. I don't really see a history of developing players for Lazor, in Atlanta he had Vick, Kittner, and Doug Johnson. In Washington he had Brunell for most of his tenure and failed to progress Jason Campbell, imo. In Seattle he had Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace, both with terrible years under his tutelage. With UVA I saw a team that was hindered by their QB decisions and lack of clarity on who was the, no questions asked starter. Rocco started to play better and was able to grab the reigns, but the defense is what has propelled them late in the season.

Lazor's offense put up 11 points per game against Top 40 defenses this year, that's not too impressive in my book.
